Hello everyone. 1990 K1500 6 inch lift 5.7 automatic. I’m wanting to install long tube headers and dual shorty exhaust and I’m thinking dual glass packs. Anyone have any good advice or what they might have done?
I just spent the last 2 days fitting a set of Hedman 69840 to my 1988 scsb K1500 and they fit perfectly. I just had to make a crossover tube running under the trans pan but made it easily removable to service the trans and wrapped the pipe in exhaust wrap to prevent it heating the trans fluid. The only issue I had was refitting the dipstick, I should have done that before I refitted the starter motor so I could have seen what I was doing.

Also have Hedman Elite long tubes on my truck. Great fitment for 88-95 small block 4x4's. They were the only ones that fit my combination.

Usually recommended to have a crossover pipe of sorts or a single exhaust on stock-ish engines to keep the torque up on these trucks.

Long tube headers are not available for 4x4 GMT 400 trucks, BC the transfer case is in the way of the passengers side header. So your only choices are, make a set of long tube headers, ( or have it done for you) and then I'm not sure there is enough clearance to run that on the passengers side, no mater what you do, or run a set of shorty headers. Shorty's are grate for low end torque. That's where they perform. Once the RPMs build, long tube headers are much better. I never heard of shorty exhaust. Are you talking about turn downs? As for the 9ld school glass packs, I have a set on my 2wd with a set of Summit shorty's, and I love it. I get a lot of compliments on how my truck sounds. My GP mufflers are 24 inch long thrush brand mufflers. I also gutted my cat's, and I have true dual exhaust out the back, with a set of SST tips that I built.

Completely false statement. I have a pair of JBA 6830SJS long tubes on my '94 K1500. I had to tweak the transmission shift linkage with a small bend to provide adequate clearance but they are otherwise a breeze to install. Yes, you will need to fab a new exhuast system so if you're looking for plug and play then short tubes are they way to go.

Your talking about custom fabrication work. I'm talking about why the header manufacturers don't sale a set for 4x4 GMT 400 trucks. These are 2 totally different things. I am a fabricator. Have been for many years. I can do, have done and and still do a lot of custom things that many other people can not, and I have don't these things for many years, and still do on a Daley basis. But, not everyone can do custom fab work.

Apparently JBA does, or at least did at one point. Those 6830SJS long tubes that langkg mentioned are mysteriously gone from JBA's website but I found a cached version of the page on Google. According to that they're compatible with '88-'98 5.0 and 5.7L, two and four wheel drive. No EGR provisions as expected, but they do have O2 sensor bungs. Obviously custom fabrication required for the rest of the system but according to that listing it looks like these should bolt up and clear everything in the engine compartment.

JEGS and Summit seem to back that up, and it looks like Summit has them in stock.

It looks like both of the Hooker part numbers that mike crane mentioned (2806HKR and 2462HKR) are listed as compatible with '88-'98 5.0/5.7L two and four wheel drive as well.

The Hedman 69840s that GrimsterGMC brought up are listed as '88-'95 only, not sure what the deal is with that...

Disclaimer, I have no experience with any of these... Just bored and doing some Googling.
