BLUF, don't try this project by yourself, have a professional shop do the work. A project like this is rare due to cost and difficulty. This is a real project that has been in progress for over a year. Currently, the body of my original 1997 K2500 7.4L has been installed on a 2004 GM 2500HD frame/suspension/running gear. The challenges now are the installation of the cooling system and the electrical.

The green truck was the donor for most of the parts

This build has cost $20,000 so far, with another $10,000+ to be paid upon completion.

The body was installed slightly higher off the frame due to clearance issues from the Allison. MOVE bumpers will be welded up as the factory bumpers weren't gonna cut it.

The truck is almost wrapped up!

All the fluids are in and it ran for about 2 hrs the other day! The interface between the 2002 wiring and the 97 interior has been a huge challenge. Dakota digital gauges and banks six gun gauges are going to manage all the new Duramax parameters.

Tell us some more just about the engine and whatever else you did custom. Did you do power mods to the engine? I feel that with such a smaller truck it wouldn’t really need much.
