I've used stainless band clamps for various exhaust projects since the '90s. Highly recommended, as long as a person understands that they are not always re-usable. I can re-use them about 75% of the time, once. By the second or third re-use, they're scrap. Be sure to buy the correct style--there's the butt-joint kind, that are the same diameter from front to back. There is also the lap-joint style, that is slightly bigger on one end.

Beware that there are NON-stainless band clamps; they can and do rot. I found that out the hard way.

Based on what was on my K1500 when I got it last year, I would not buy anything made in china. I removed the failed and poorly constructed system and replaced with a Y pipe form Jegs, then a set of shorty headers. Wow, what a difference in power. I bet I gained 30hp. The Y pipe has four bungs for the O2 sensors.

If you live in California, it's a whole different ball game. You have to install a CARB approved cat for your vehicle, or you won't pass the smog test. I which they would re do the exemptions. It's still 1975 and older.

That's probably since cats came in pretty much across the board in '75, but yeah they should get with the times. Most other states, 25 years old or older is emissions exempt. In Texas, you still have to pass the safety part of yearly inspection ( lights, brakes, etc.) but emissions stuff isn't looked at after 25 years. Least that's what my inspector told me, I'm holding him to it in two years lol!

Yeah, here in Maricopa county (AZ) it's older than 77 IIRC. My 88 would still be required for emissions testing (rolling dyno) but, since I have "Historic" plates and "Restricted Use" insurance, it's exempt plus I get a 5 year registration too :waytogo:

Most places don’t actually check to see if it’s a carb approved cat under there, as long as they do see a cat there. the bigger issue is getting someone to ship a non carb approved cat to you in ca lol

I ordered the BRExhaust / Bosal from Rock Auto and actually received a Magnaflow cat instead. Apparently, after trying to call Bosal and attempting to get to the bottom of it, the number I called was in fact Magnaflow.

The story is they bought out BRExhaust (formally Bosal) and I wound up getting a great price on the Magnaflow. The box indicated Bosal but there was a Magnaflow Catalytic converter inside.

The place I use doesn’t check anything. He just looks at insurance, registration, and puts a new sticker in. When my cats do finally fail (they’re several years old) I may go straight pipe. The cost to replace 2 cats at exhaust shop is around $1600.
