My speed limiter is set to somewhere around 200 MPH. I have had my truck well over 100 MPH, more times than I can count. These trucks have no issues handling high speeds. That being said, my truck is in pristine condition. Also I am not doing these speeds in traffic, unless everyone is doing the same thing. Try driving in Houston TX. If your not doing at least 90, you'll get run over. You can drive fast, with out being reckless, as long as your vehicle is in good condition. It amazes me, just how well these trucks do handel speeds up, and over 100 MPH, or at least mine does anyway.
I'll admit on 45 if your not keeping up with traffic its kill or be killed. Shoot I was coming home on 45 in Huntsville and was doing 85/90mph. Freaking people were passing me like I was going 65mph. It felt like ping pong had to keep moving left lane, right lane, left lane, rightlane. And it was numerous vehicles. That's the biggest reason I set the mph so high on the burb. So I can actually move if I have to. But in my case lifted burbs dont tend to handle like a Corvette above 100mph......

What's the fastest a 5.7l Vortec Suburban will do in OD (before it down-shifts to 3rd)?
Not sure on that one but since it was brand new the suburban will hit 97mph and the rpms will be around 3k. Once you hit 98mph it will bog down to about 95mph and repeat the process. If I'm not mistaken the od get disabled at that high of rpms and speed.... now btw the guage will say 100mph but from my experience that's how much off the speed is to actual speed. I only found this out when the tuner downloaded my factory specs

About 7 or 8 years ago, (I was still working offshore then), I was coming home from my 2 week work shift. The rig mechanic had a 2013 Denali (truck) with a 6.2L LS engine. So, he was messing with me. Pulling away from me, letting me catch up with him, ECT. Well knowing that the Denali had a speed limiter, I nailed my 97, c1500, 4L60E and just keep my foot on the floor. I still had the OE instrument cluster, so top speed on it was 100. At 80, in OD, gas peddle to the floor, you can feel the torque converter go into full lock up. At 100 I'm still in OD, and he is hanging with me. The rear end was still OE. 343 gears. I was around 3500 RPMs maybe, I don't really remember. So, I keep my foot to the floor. At about 4500 RPMs, I'm leaving that Denali behind. I got it up to 5200 RPMs before I let off. I couldn't see that Denali in my rear view mirror any more. I know that there are calculators to figure speed VS RPMs with gear ratio, but what they don't factor is wind drag on the truck. Close as I can figure, I was doing 140 ish MPG

Some of the roads to get to some of the boat docks that service the offshore oil rigs, are a long way for any cities. The streach of HWY where we were, goes for many, many miles before you get to any kind of towns at all, and even then they are small towns. When I had my 73 Challenger, * had that car to 140 MPH more times than I could count. That is why my best guess of how fast I was going in my truck was 140. I know what that feels like. How fast the strips on the road come at you, how fast the side of the road looks like it's moving EXT. Here is a pic of my Challenger. I should have never sold that car.
