Hi everyone,

I have a 1994 GMC K1500 with a TBI (obviously) 350 and a 4L60E.

I’m currently in the process of building and engine for it (new heads, intake, carb swapped, bigger cam, etc…)

My question is, how do I control the transmission (like kickdown and torque converter lock etc..) without the TPS on the original throttle body?

Are these 4L60Es standalone and operate those functions on their own? I’ve been told there’s a TV cable that goes to the transmission that controls kickdown but on mine there was only the throttle cable and the cruise control cable that led up to the box on the firewall by the wiper motor. Am I missing something?

Then transmission is brand new as of a few months ago, so swapping out for a 700R4 is out of the question. I’m determined to make this work.

Like I said previously, I’m carb swapping it to a quadrajet to suffice the upgrades i’ve done to the top end, and just because I like carburetors. (call me old fashioned i guess :D)

Any insight would be great!
Thanks
I have a ‘94 with a 4L60E and am using the ECU to run the trans. There is a lot of information out there on how to do it. Trans needs tps, vss, rpm and cts. pretty simple once you research a little.
im running a Sniper and there are a number of ways to get a tps signal. ther are pitfalls here too so suffice to say you’re best bet is individual tps for trans and one for sniper. If carbed then there is a bracket. Again. Simple.
someone already pointed out downside of this approach in that you’re stuck with stock shift points unless you burn a chip. Other approach is a stand alone trans controller of which there are many. Downside here is $600+
if I did it over again I would go with a Holley EFI that also controlled trans. Lots of ways to skin this cat though.

I am both a carburetor and a fuel injection guy. I've drilled my own jets from machine screws, but I also like the on-the-fly adjustment that fuel injection can perform. Having my transmission controlled by a computer with a good strategy is optimal, but being able to just bolt it up and go also has its advantages. I can dig it all.

The Monte in my sig has an 800cfm qjet and it's staying that way. I also like the way the TH400 acts being all mechanical. But 99% of the time I prefer computer controlled stuff. OBDI and earlyish OBDII anyway. Canbus is kinda cool, but borders on too much headache for my liking.
