Well I’m here in the same boat as you. If you find my post titled “Engine Swap” I’m starting the exact job in a 98 k1500. Still in the process of finding the best route to go. If you check out my post you’ll find some useful information. Definitely a good idea to come here and get some guys to start talking and soak in their knowledge. Still haven’t decided on what motor I’ll be swapping in. Trying to keep it simple as I’ll be doing the swap on my own, but I’d also like to get more hp than stock. And I’ve got about a 5-6k budget

I am planning to freshen up my Tahoe with a same block just better internals (West coast engines) 5.7. I would be afraid of tuning needed for a 383. Tuning is a totally different cost $$$ for OBD2.
Unless you data log you don't really know if it needs a tune in the ECM, could run good until its not running at all.
I put a vortec in my TBI Blazer, Required tuning a chip. Tuning soft ware is cheap, not too complicated if I can kinda do it.

Yes, kinda. Horsepower is not measured, it's calculated using an equation: torque x rpm / 5252

Yes, cams change things. But your results from a combination are what they are.

Uh, what?

I think you mean the new Z06 motor, and while true, it's not really relevant to the comparison at hand.
Your absolutely correct that when I said the 2022 Corvette engine I meant the new zo6, I think if you read it again you'll see the relevance, The point is advances in technology and Design, horse and buggy- steam tractor / gas tractor/ carburetor /fuel injection 383/ 6 bolt crank capable of supporting over 1000 horsepower Factory / junkyard LS blocks/ variable valve timing. See how it all comes together? I just wish I had this much wind in real life, I get tuckered out walking all the way to the mailbox and back

The LT6 looks to be an amazing motor for a track car, which is what it was designed for, but it would be a dog in a truck without a very low rear end gear and a trans with a lot of gears. I'd take the tried and true in this case, assuming you could even get your hands on a LT6.

I hear Harbor Freight ( i know but... ) has em for relatively cheap...
$50/day and the rental places arent open on the weekends. Decided to just buy it a couple weeks ago for $300 something. I have a feeling it will come in use for some other projects eventually.

Finally got the motor stripped down to the block & rotating assembly. Off to the machine shop in Feb.

Between the engine and the bay..I have never cleaned off so much dirt and oil in my life.

I live in the east valley (very close to ASU). I still need to find a shop. Starting research this next week.

Any suggestions?

The NHRA event's coming soon. Stop by the track and talk to some sportsman racers, see who they suggest.

They're running test-n-tune, with admission to the public on one day on the weekend 11-13 (not sure which day offhand). I'm guessing there won't be many sportsman racers there, then.

Two weeks later 25-27 is the national event. Plenty of sportsman racers will be there, then.

Thought a lot about the LS swap. But I really want the truck back on the road. I'm looking hard at crate motors and wondering if anyone has a suggestion on exactly what I can put in my 98 1500 that will replace my 5.7 without too much hassle. I can do the wrenching, but I am not a mechanic nor do I know too much about swaps. Any help would be appreciated! Most likely I will get another 5.7 so I don't have to do too much. Would love more hp...
Any updates since all this?
