Hey, just picked up a 1996 C1500 with 4.3L. Fuel pump is noisy, engine studders upon acceleration with low gas, and fuel gauge is off it seems. Ive replaced mine twice in my lifted NBS by dropping the tank, but will probably tilt the bed this time. I will inform driver to keep at least 1/4 gas in tank at all times.

Delphi or ac delco seems most recommended and is what ive used before. I didnt want to settle on a generic one and do this again soon. After researching online at various sites I had my eye on the delphi HP10001. though sites such as rockauto, and amazon state "with Code # VCD,VRY,VPN,VRZ". I checked my RPO codes and do not have any of those codes, if they are indeed RPO codes. Do you think this fuel pump assembly will work for my application, or is there another pump i should be looking at? Any other parts i should have on hand for this install? Thanks!

I suspect you'll find a 3-letter code on a paper tag on the fuel pump hanger assembly.
"VEC" in the case of the Treasure-Yard tank now in my '88 K1500.

thank you for this info!!

i went to change my fuel filter, and one of the nuts on the line is completely rounded off. so ive been hitting it with penetrating oil for a few days.

i start the truck, and pull the fuel pump relay .... truck keeps running and will not shut off. this is how i do itin my 5.3 and it's not working, truck continues to run without the relay installed.

what does this mean, and is it safe to try to change the filter? i was hoping to de-pressurize system

That's because the Oil Pressure Switch, mounted on the china rail behind the distributor, bypasses the Fuel Pump Relay when it sees ~4 PSI. When the FPR is working they both share the load.

Use "fuel injection" hose, not low-pressure carburetor fuel hose.

Overall, I would not recommend hose at all. Splice in a new section of tubing with new flarenuts as needed. (I did, on my '97.)

Those aren't RPO's, those are broadcast codes, used in plant for quick identification. I keep a picture of the sticker from my pump, on my computer.
