I'd much rather a paddle shifter setup so that I can have both manual and auto. I have a manumatic in my Jeep and had paddles in my Mini

Are you wanting to convert your transmission to a fully manual? This is for your white truck that pulls your RV?

I don't have experience with that controller, but I will say Jake's is considered the most knowledgeable source on the 4L80s on the LS1tech website. He does his own design, testing and machining in-house. I would call him and discuss what your goals are. He's kinda local to this area, but known across the board...

This would most likely be for the next truck that I put together. I had asked Jakes about building me a full manual 4l80e, and this is what they steered me towards. The only thing that I'm leary of is this controller makes the trans run at max line pressure. But - I don't know much about transmissions, and Jakes does...

I have drooled over those paddle shifters.

This would be going into the next truck that I put together, and the main goal of that truck would be to go as analog as possible.

Would be better to do a TH400 with a manual valve body for full analog, unless you specifically want the OD lock up, which would be added as an "on-off" switch.

I'd be well wary of running at full line pressure. When my 4L80E was (disabled MAF sensor due to missing fuse) the up-shifts were pretty rough and when this was discussed on the forum the consensus was that full line pressure was tough on the transmission.

I have considered the th400, but thought that having 4 gears would be better for me. This would be going in a cclb 4x4 dually. 245 tires/4.56 gears/vortec 454 with carb. I'd build a center console, and mount a manual (for autos) shifter on that. The lock up would be on a toggle switch.

The truck would tow a small/medium sized toy hauler. According to gearing calculators, the truck would turn 2300-3000 rpms in the range that I typically tow, 60-80 mph.

Just a dream for now, but that is what I am thinking.

yep, full line pressure is rough on transmissions. We have a test cell where we've been torture testing transmissions, and they all die eventually, but most are after we turn up the line pressure to max.

He's probably talking about the maximum normal range of fluid pressure? Which is around 150-175 psi IIRC. Runaway pressure is something different. That's when the pressure regulator valve malfunctions and as a result, the pump pressurizes the fluid uncontrollably, and for this pump is around 600 psi. That's when you have issues with stuff inside breaking.

I don't know much about transmissions either, but I'm learning as I go. I'd call Jake's and ask about your concern. If they are building you a transmission to a certain specifications, I would think they do other modification to handle this. I read he does his own hydraulic modifications and doesn't rely on packaged "shift kits."
