Hey guys,

I recently got done swapping out my junk trans with a oreillys 4l60(700r4) on my 92 chevy and I wanted to know what its normal shifting rpm is supposed to be?

My speedometer doesnt work after the swap idk if i missed something or not but i put new sensor into it and nothing happens so i been going off my tach which my 2nd gear shifts around 2k my 3rd is 2,500 ish and overdrive is around 2,100 is this normal or do i need to adjust my tv cable some more? It has a kick in the 2-3 shift and i didnt know if that’s common in aftermarket trans or not

You changed the sensor on the back in the tail hosing and it still doesn't work? IIRC there's different colored plastic gears available, I think to calibrate your speedometer. Looks like this: GM TURBO 700R4 350 TH350 4L60 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SPEEDOMETER KIT 45 OLIVE DRIVEN GEAR HOUSING CLAMP & BOLTS

Maybe you got a bad sensor, especially if it worked before?

Maybe @Erik the Awful can help you out with the shift points.

If I remember right, it should kick into second around 20-25 mph. If that shift is smooth, but 2-3 is harsh, it's not a TV cable adjustment problem, it's an internal transmission problem, and tweaking the TV cable to smooth it out will burn up your transmission.

Should be electronic vss and did you see if the tone wheel happened to on tailshaft ive seen many remans not come with it that could be speedo prolem. Harsh shift would be cable or trans problem because the 700 is not computer controlled

Experienced a similar situation when I bought my '89 Cheyenne. A previous owner swapped the engine/trans from a boneyard source, and the speedo didn't work. Car 700 r4's use a gear driven speed sensor, whereas the trucks use a tone wheel/hall effect switch for their vss. Pull out your vss switch. If it has a gear on it, it's wrong. You need to install a tone wheel on the trans. output shaft. They're inexpensive. You just need to shrink(freeze) the shaft and heat the tone wheel really hot and it'll go right on. BUT!! you gotta be quick. Otherwise you'll not get the wheel centered correctly

The original trans that came out of my truck had a big circle sensor and on it was a giant magnet but I didn’t see any gear pop out but i could of missed it with me being in a good rush to put the transmission in ill go take a look in the morning and see because its bugging the crap out of me not having a speedo especially since i put leds in my cluster i wanted to see the thing work and see how it looks lol

The bright side is i got my shifting issue taken care of i had the tv cable out of adjustment now its shifting like it used to before the transmission gave out

I just ordered a reman 4l60 from these guys, https://reman-transmission.com/transmission-codes/?code=4L60-E, is the TV cable being out of adjustment a common thing among rebuilt 4l60s? Either way I'll definitely be on the lookout for it now

^^^This. Reman trans don't always come with the reluctor wheel.

Yes, every time you need to adjust the TV cable.
