Long time lurker on here but back behind the wheel of a GMT400 again. As such, My 'new' 95 suburban with 454 is coding 36 from the SES light. No obvious rough idle or issues noted in either open or closed loop idle or running down the road.

The only information I have been able to find consistency on code 36 refers to the VSS sensor and seems to be an ABS code from the service manual. I'm not convinced its an ABS or VSS issue and hoping one of you could provide some guidance on what to check. Thanks in advance for the help.

I clearly deserve a smack upside the head for overlooking that manual link. Sometime in the next few days I'll dive into the troubleshooting when time allows. Thank you for the quick reply and bringing me back to fully reading the service manual posts.

Ha, I forgot about them as well for a while and spent all this time trying to find wiring diagrams. Downloaded the ones for my truck but whenever an issue pops up I look at those, more to help myself as usually someone has responded before I find the issue in the manual.

I thought I had downloaded the relevant 95 manuals but seem to have missed several of them. going back through them now as I'm sure i will have several other things to come up as I start driving and fixing things up.

Had the opportunity to look over it today and seems like the vacuum control solenoid is bad. Haven't chased down a replacement yet but should at least be simple to change. Thanks for the help again.

Finally got around to replacing the idle control actuator solenoid valve this evening after picking up a bunch of parts including upper control arm assemblies, ball joints, lower bushings, and tie rod ends.

After breaking a vacuum line, slipping a larger hose over the broken section, and putting the new solenoid on..... no difference in idle speed. Doesn't seem to be allowing vacuum through the valve. Maybe it has reversed ports from removed unit or is a dud out of the box.

I had previously checked circuits and had power to the plug. Will do some troubleshooting when i have better light and more time. Dinner and helping he better half wrangle kids was beckoning my attention.

Thus the beauty of using a real scan tool. You might have been able to command a variety of idle speeds to see if the IAC was able to achieve them.

I know I can do this on my 03 Trailblazer. Can't say I've tried it on my '88 or '97 K-trucks.

The new IAC may need to be re-set before it functions properly.

To clarify, i replaced the vacuum solenoid that operates the diaphragm mounted beside the TBI below throttle cable. Replacement p/n crb 219227 from napa.

While scan tools are brought up, any recommendations for the obd I system that are reasonably priced?
