No 4th gear

1990 Chevy GMT400 k3500 dually
7.4L V8 454 4x4

It goes thru all 3 but never into 4th!

How bad could this be, just bought it.

Need serious assistance, first time box Chevy owner, and first time dually owner….. Thanks I’m advance

We'll, that's because you have the THM400 (3 speed.) aka Turbo 400, 3L80.

The 4 speed THM4L80e didn't hit the streets until 1991.

There was a thread here recently about a member asking about converting to overdrive. I even posted an interesting link from an article where they did the GearVendors to a 3 speed Ford F250. Look down, maybe a month ago...

These trucks are heavy workhorses, they simply don't get good gas mileage. I assume you bought it for working it?

I bought an 89 K3500 last year without doing enough research. had a truck with a 350/700r4 as a teenager, it was the same confusing suprise when i was driving home, wondering why it was revving so high on the freeway, and felt like overdrive was out.
