I made the return trip last weekend to CO from CA semi-uneventfully. Signs said eastbound I40 was closed at mile marker 96 so I pulled up the Google machine to explore other options. I ended up shooting straight north to Farmington, NM through a massive reservation. From there I made my way to Pagosa Springs and, upon departing there, had the privilege of dragging a trailer through Wolf Creek Pass in December. Yay me. Truck was dry and clean to that point, then it was covered in dirt and salt. I've never taken such a pass in the snow before and I'm not in a hurry to do it again. So this year I've hauled the camper/trailer combo to OK and back, the camper from CO to MI and back, and the trailer to/around CA and back to CO. I think I made up for the lack of miles I put on it in 2020.

Plus when engine braking alone doesn't cut it I eventually begin to wonder if I'll get brake fade. Not the end of the world when the road is straight. Less momentum = less heat in the brakes, sucks to suck people behind me!

Factory service manual. Set of 4 Volumes. Got it off eBay a year or two ago.
I have a digital copy of the 1998 set and the 97 supplement. Never taken the time to look through it though, volume 1 is like 1400 pages alone lmfao. Wish I had a hard copy like that. Thanks for giving me an idea of what's all actually in it

Hey so I looked up these manuals on eBay and was hoping you could offer some advice on which set I should get. I found the 2000 set you've got, which I would've thought would cover the GMT800s more than the 400s. Also found the 1998 set I have a digital dopy of. And finally found a 1998 Second Edition set.

I presume the 98 second edition would be the best? Never gonna own a gmt800 lol

I'd say it depends. All the 8 lug stuff was still 400 back in 2000.

I'd just rather an edition that doesn't have extra crap I'm never gonna read. Nothing really changed from 98 to 00 on the 2500 & 3500s? And if I ever got an 35HD I'd want a 454 anyways

Edit: sorry for jacking your thread lol

Meh, those links are tempting me anyway. 98-00 was the last revision for these trucks, they got a newer airbag, radio, PCM, fuel tank/evap, etc.

Just so you're aware those links are for eBay.ca not .com
Thought the 400 HDs ran until 02? Didn't think about the information they could offer into an 0411 swap though, could be really helpful as that's something I've been thinking about for a bit now
