Count your blessings and buy a stack of scratch-offs. I've had more people NOT show, than DO show, repeatedly, for decades upon decades at this point. It's more expected that they will not show.. will not call again.. will not text/email/etc.. so my policy has become, I will hold it if you are literally on your way (as in, we agreed to a time and place in the immediate reasonable future) or if a deposit is placed.

This goes for auto parts, whole vehicles, hobby items, etc. I really don't know why people just won't hold up their end of the deal. :/

I'm with the "buyer" on this one. If you agreed to meet him witha place/time, then you're wrong for then selling them to someone else. I'd never do that to someone. If you're one of those guys that wants to turn it into a race, let me know ahead of time so I can scroll past your ad.
I've had people call dibs on things I have for sale n every day it's "I'll be there at insert time" then don't answer for 2 hrs after n keep up a constant "I'll be there tmrw if...". This ain't baseball. 2 strikes if Im feelin generous. Jerk me around bein over hour late n make excuses, next guy gets it. Last few times I've sold stuff it was some younger kids and they would actually lemme know their whole ride where they were turnin, of they missed a turn, etc. I appreciated that n if they asked me to drop price 10 bucks no big deal since they was honest n didn't haggle me right off the rip.

Yeah. I’m glued to my phone if I’m trying to set up buying something. If you set up a buy in advance and are late to it, you done want the item bad enough. Lol

I usually don’t have any trouble stacking people up for something I’m selling. If someone commits to buying something and I am getting a good impression from them (i.e. they are communicating well and not giving off flake vibes) then I will tell other interested people that they are #2, #3, etc. I don’t want someone to make arrangements (take off work, baby sitter, go to the bank, etc) and then have me undo that. It’s pretty infrequent that I get someone truly flake on sale and when they do, I can just call up #2 and tell them the good news.

Everyone’s got their own way of doing business and I do agree that you’re entitled to sell to whoever’s got the cash in your face. Some folks feel entitled to stuff the second that they make contact with a seller and that’s infuriating.

Whatever legitimate complaint the buyer had died when he started cursing and called John a "POS".

Cash in hand wins every time. I've had a prospective buyer set up a time, and then someone else call and set up an even earlier time. Am I obligated to hurriedly call the later guy? In my opinion, no. I'm only obligated if the earlier guy buys. As a buyer, I'd be disappointed, but it's all on me. If I could get there earlier, I should have scheduled earlier.

I would agree with just selling to whomever shows up first with cash, I have held things before and it worked out and other times people have completely flaked on me. I don't do facebook anything but I imagine it's worse than craigslist. My biggest complaint though is people texting you 10-15 times about something asking a ton of questions and setting up a time and then going dead. Had a guy buying a car once who had looked at it before and wasn't sure. He called me setup a time and agreed upon an amount. Never showed up, then texted me the following day and said he forgot. I forgot to ever text him back.

You shouldn't be setting up an earlier time with someone, you've already got your buyer lined up.

I suppose one difference is if some one is coming to look, or buy. Obviously people look at cars, and then decide to buy. Most of my stuff is smaller, and the "looking" is just a quick verification that the item is what I said it is, and the person came with the intent to buy, not to decide.

I've never had anyone decide they didn't want the item after all, and often times my buyers are traveling from out of town.
