Hey all, I'm new to the forums here. I have a 1998 K2500 with the 7.4L and 4L80e. Currently all it has is a CAI, true dual cat-back 2 1/4" straight pipes, and a custom 93 octane tune that was live-tuned using HPtuners. The exhaust is raspy as can be and I'm about tired of it (it was like that when I got it). I don't really drive the truck much, since it was grandpa's old truck and only has 65k miles on it. It is mainly a Sunday driver and is sometimes (rarely) used towing a 25ft gooseneck with an 11k lb tractor. I was thinking about removing or gutting out the cats and running a dual 3" exhaust out the back in place of the 2 1/4" pipes that are on it. It would still be straight piped but I'm liable to install an H-pipe too to help with the low-end rumble and get rid of some of the raspyness. Does anyone on here have a similar setup that I could listen to?

Please don't straight pipe it , duals with a couple good low rumble mufflers will sound great with that big block.

GM saw fit to use 3" head pipes, what makes you think 3" duals would hinder torque on the 454?
I was surprised when I first saw that. I was laying under the truck one day looking at something and realized it went from the 3" head pipes into the cats, then from the cats back it was 2 1/2" for a few feet then into 2 1/4" tailpipes. Talk about being necked down.
