Hello new here. I did do a search but only came up with bucket seats swap options not what I was looking for.

I have a 1996 Silverado with power driver seat. Seems like the switch went out ? Just stopped working. I couldn’t find a fuse for it, or is there a relay I didn’t try ?

I am fine spending money to replace the switch but also wanted to try the gimmes if they are out there. Just need a little direction if possible, how to fix or best place to find the switch

Thanks all. Great looking forum

Power seats and windows generally use circuit breakers rather than fuses. They plug into the fuse block just like a fuse but they are larger and generally a silver metal box.
The circuit breakers and motors almost never go bad and the switches are pretty robust as well.

Most of the time the problem is dirt and gunk in the tracks. Pop out the seat and clean & lubricate the gears and tracks. WD-40 makes a great cleaner/degunkifier and I believe white lithium grease is the recommended lube.

Scrubbing with WD-40 and a toothbrush or 3 that you hate can do wonders for door latches, window tracks, and the like.

Got it will give that a shot and see what happens.

Presumably the circuit breaker boxes can be had at autozone or the like as a the next step in problem solving?

Solid advice on doing the easy stuff first, thank you

I had this issue on my wifes minivan. Replaced the switch nothing. Fuses etc were good, so I assumed it was the motor. Looked at the motor, and something under the seat had jammed against the connection to the motor, and it came unplugged. Plugged it back in and worked like new. I would check motor connections.

Is there power to the motor. That would be the first thing I’d check. Test light, power probe, or a DMM.

Check for power to the switch first. If you have power there. Then I’d check power coming out of the switch to the motor. If you need a wiring diagram I can get one.

Does it make any noise at all? Voltage test as mentioned above. If there is no noise or motion then it could easily be electric but very rarely would it be the switch or the breaker. Try jumping out the switch to eliminate it or run a wire directly from battery to test the motor. it is most likely the connection or a broken wire somewhere. Welcome to the forum and be sure and post what you find when you track it down.

Yep good advice thanks all
No noise when I press the switch. Why I didn’t start with obstruction check first but you never know.

I will take the multi meter to it and see what we find, a loose connector would be a beautiful find if it could be that easy.
I am shocked the switch doesnt go bad on typical but thst is great news.

Also I try and be good about reporting back for posterity sake, used to be big into the 3000gt/ dodge stealth forum so mutual learning was a big deal for me. Will try and report back

There is power directly at the switch… no noise no movement and it is pretty clean in the tracks.
Also swapped the circuit breakers just to see what happened if anything.

Still no movement.

Correction…. The two down flat style switches get momentwary power when I engage them…. And the master seat control 4 way shows power at the switch when I engage it.

Still no movement
I may try and clean it and see what happens but with no noise my guess is smoked motor

What do the up down flat switches do?
