Guess that's why my paint on my old truck flaked off the bed a dime size chunk at a time and spider cracked where I thought I "fixed it." All the metal looked great until the day it was totaled.

Great info.

Anybody Still Around on this post?

I have roughly a 12" by 6" spot to "replace", not just repair. Where do I start? It is the far aft section from the step down on a 1993 stepside. I have the edges intact because there is a body kit/ ground affect mounted so I can keep the body lines, but I have to completely replace the HOLE that remains. Do I just start building it back little by little from the edges or can I use the epoxy resin with a fiberglass or other mat? The videos of SMC posted online only show crack repair. I need to essentially rebuild a part of the panel.

I know fiberglass cloth and epoxy resins are very compatable as I use both in boat building. The cloth must be totally saturated with no air bubbles. We repaired a big truck fender with epoxy and glass a few years ago but didn't ever hear back or see the truck again. I guess thats a good thing. We taped plastic on the other side fender and molded the repair piece that way and then glued it in place on the other side with thickend epoxy.

Just wanted to say thanks lol, I just got a donor truck for the step bed and just KNEW it was fiberglass lol. It has a hole one one side and a crack on the other, already purchased the fiberglass to repair it, glad I have not started! I have self etching primer to paint the truck with, will this work for the bed?

You can use the West Marine epoxy system to fix them. It works well. Can even make a filler out of it.
