I recently had my windshield replaced by Safelite (insurance claim) and definitely not pleased with the result. I have a 1991 Silverado and the windshield now has quite a gap at the top of the windshield and the side seals look "wrong". It looks like really shabby work and I even question if it's the right windshield. The manager keeps telling me that it's how the aftermarket windshields fits these trucks. He wants me to bring it back to place a bead of sealant and smooth it out. Is he correct? Or is he just full of :poop: ?

We had Safelite replace the lift glass in the rear gate on the 06 Yukon XL Denali a few years ago ( when we were still driving it), and the installer came very close to dropping the new one as he tried to put it on the first time. And this is a $450 piece of tempered glass, with the hinge and latch assemblies attached, that will shatter into a zillion pieces if it gets in a bind.... that's why it was having to be replaced! ( One tiny rock thrown up by a weed Wacker....)

I know 2 different windshields are available lmc stocks them both ,The factory windshield style has the molded sides and the one you got is what most places install and it has like pieces of foam tube on the side that is cheap junk. I would look into where Lmc gets there molded side windshields and try and get one of them. Looks to me that they didn't set your windshield in on the lower stops at the bottom of the windshield ,its suppose to rest on the lower stops to help position it and let the urethane dry, they may have broke broke them or they are missing they are just plastic. I am pretty sure your windshield did slide down and is the right size just installed wrong but i am also pretty sure that it is thinner than factory glass. Try to get a windshield with molded sides next time.

I had mine replaced by Safeflite as well over a year ago. I have that same ugly gap at the top and the funky sides. Looks like crap. I did
send them this info when I got a followup email. They said to stop by but I haven't licensed the truck yet. Info in this thread is very helpful hearing others have nice results on their windshield replacement. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on getting this on the road and I'll follow up with what they do for me.

I had mine replaced about six months ago. Here's a picture of the gap on top. It's a little more than a nickel's width. Your installer needs to redo it, and I'd hold Safelite's feet to the fire. If they have to wrestle with him to redo it, he likely won't get any more work from them.
