For another $200 and some block clearancing you were on your way to a HT383E. To late for that now, but you could still use that GM Performance cam P/N 14097395 that they put in the Ramjet350 and HT383e. Already paired perfectly to your heads to provide more grunt on low end, and more ponies on top end.

I put a S&J Engines 383RLB into my '97 Silverado Z71 about a year ago and had Blackbear performance do a mail-order tune for the beast. So far, it looks like everything works just fine, and I'm using this vehicle to tow a GeoPro trailer that weighs about 3500 lbs with no difficulty. Turn-around on the re-programmed engine control module was quick-enough--about a week. Blackbear was easy to work-with, and they can upgrade your tune for very small change after the initial work is done, if you need something more-special.

Nice! I probably would have stuck with the 305 for his first year of driving, though. My oldest had a P71 Crown Vic, and he caused the "No V8s" rule that my other kids had to live with.

Sub communications, huh? I used to work as a civilian contractor on the E6 program here at Tinker.

Just went through similar situation with my 16 now 17 yr. old. Drove 900 miles to VA and bought 96 K1500 w/46k. Fast forward- ultimately he wanted a Mustang GT. He got a V6!I agreed to doing this only because in the end I think I loved this truck more than he did. I also got rid of the 2018 Z71. Wasn’t happy with the way that transmission was going anyway. The 96’ had less miles on it!

Ditto, I installed an S&J 383 about a year and a half ago and had Old EFI from this forum tune the chip for $300. Used TunerPro and sent the chip back and forth about 4 times to get it perfect. Tows fantastic now. Running perfect. Also installed dual exhaust with Magnaflows and a couple of resonators and JBA shorty headers. I can tow our 4500 lb TT about any speed I want but keep it below 65 for the sake of safety and tires.

I agree and I get that. But again, you’re forgetting, 16yo kid driving this truck daily.

Would you still be alive if your first car had 383 stroked?!?! Maybe so, but I doubt that I would be.

Thanks a lot! I’ll definitely check him out!

I absolutely would have stuck with the 305 if the oil pan hadn’t been left off for months because of the spun main bearing and rust all over everything. I’m not knocking 305’s, but I wouldn’t personally drop major $$ into rebuilding one!
