Went to change the rear end fluid and found this laying in the bottom ! There were no previous noises or issues, was just doing a fluid change. Is this a posi unit ? 1996 c3500 2wd crew cab.

Kinda hard to tell, but looks like an open differential. Can you rotate the axle a bit to look at the spider gears?

Do you have the rpo code on the glove box? Look for the G80 code...

Have no idea what those parts could be.

Looks like a few roller bearings ( the actual rollers) and part of the cage they normally ride in. Had some fried/ exploded rear axle bearings in a square body Burb, got it apart and changed and cleaned out the axle housing, but it wasn't fun.
Yeah, there parts of a cage and rollers. I can see the outer bearings still seem to be completely intact. Maybe pinion? But again no noise or anything.

No noises probably be because those broken parts are part of the G80. The differential acts like an open differential.

If you get one wheel on mud or ice and the other on pavement and try to gun the gas pedal it will engage...in your case it likely won't engage. Have you had this truck for a while?

No, about 2 months or so. Only parts found were a c-clip, 4 bearing rollers, and a part of a bearing cage.
