I suppose this could just have easily gone in the engine and performance section but here we go. I have a 96 C2500 and I want rear disc brakes. Installed 20 inch open design rims and the rear drums stand out like a sore thumb to me now. I honestly don’t care about increasing performance as much as I care about how they look, if I get more great. First step is identifying which axle I have on It and I’m looking into that. At this moment only thing I know for sure is it’s a 6 lug and have no reason to think it isn’t the original. Not even sure if it’s the bigger drums. I can compare it to my 98 C1500 on that anyways. I see a few new rear disc conversion kits for $400 plus that look pretty complete minus masters. Is there a best option for this? Conversion or factory stuff? Were Burbs and Tahoe’s or vans in the mid 90’s commonly equipped with rear disc’s? Seems like NBS’s were in 2000’s is that an option? I’m all for the idea of using junkyard stuff but living up in the north i could end up paying in time and skin every cent I’d save plus more using junkyard stuff but it’s at least worth a scouting trip or two. Really haven’t looked around much for info on this yet, sure it’s all over this forum so if anyone could kick me in a direction feel free. Thanks for any information.

Check out Little Shops Mfg rear kit. They have a conversion kit for a 14 bolt rear end.

I have their rear kit on my 98 (C1500) & my 76 C-10 and like them.

Here's some pics of the kit on the 98.

(Note: these are the non e-brake style calipers. I opted not to run an e-brake for this truck)
