So my '97 K1500 Suburban is leaking from the pinion seal, and I'm looking for a replacement. I looked up the diagram on GM Parts Direct (who have not failed me yet as far as providing accurate part numbers) and came up with ACDelco 26033578. Just out of curiosity I cross referenced on Rock Auto and they list two different designs for the 10 bolt pinion seals. The first design is a once piece seal and matches the part number that GM Parts Direct gave me. The second is ACDelco part number 26064028, and is a triple lip two piece seal.

I'm assuming the part number for the one piece first design that GM Parts Direct gave me (26033578) is correct, but can anyone confirm this? Is there any way to tell which one I need without tearing things apart?

Could this be an updated seal type? That's what I would think with with the triple lip design, but the two piece is curious and maybe an older design.

Not sure. The two piece is listed as "Second Design" so I'm assuming it's newer. Can't find detailed listings on the ACDelco parts but here's a comparison between the two using National brand seals.

First (One piece) design:

Second (Two piece) design:

Went ahead and ordered both. We shall see which is correct.

Will do. Might be a few weeks before I get it into the shop, though.

Just to update everyone on this... The correct pinion seal for my specific application was ACDelco part number 26033578, the one piece seal.

Yes, that's the one my mechanic ended up using. It's been in there a few years now and hasn't leaked yet.

Again for clarification, this was on a '97 K1500 Suburban that was built in December of 1996.
