hello
need to replace 4 shocks, want both on road and off road.
i prefer oil over gas since i heard they live longer.

there are bunch of types made by acdelco, am very confused.
for the fronts for instance there are couple of HD, 525-55 and 525-36, and there's 550-178 which is the most expensive and is "SLP"- what does is stand for?
and for the rears thers's HD 525-42 and what they call premium 540-5043.

thanks

I've got Bilstein shocks on all corners on my C1500. My front have about 100K on them and the rear have ~40K (this was when I didn't know about doing all four at the same time.)

It's been nearly 8 years since I put the front shocks on and the truck rides just as good as it did when I first put them on.

If you're going to replace them, don't cheap out. Bilstein and KYB I've heard are the best OEM for these trucks.

I also vote Bilstein 4600 yellow shocks. I have them on my 1998 K3500, although I haven't put many miles on them. They're a little bouncy at first, but eventually, they smooth out and really improve drivability. Even with a heavy trailer bouncing around, handling is still comfortable. Unloaded, I think the ride is unmatched.

Although if you want off-road performance, I would suggest Bilstein 5100 silver shocks. They have valve tuning for off road and on-road more than the 4600s.

I know folks with over 150k on their shocks and they still ride like they did at 10k.
