Are you running the factory turbo? If so what shape is it in?
Yes, stock turbo. It appears to be in great shape with no noise or shaft play. The oil coming out of it was really black but I’m sure that’ll clear up.

I have been reading into newer gen Cummins turbo swaps that people are doing. I’ll keep that in mind for after the project is up and running

Haha keep it coming! Currently the rear ended is 3.73 but my front axle is 4.10. I’m leaning towards 4.10 although my rear axle is in great shape and I don’t want to touch it.

I’ll have a set of 37” military 8 lug 24bolt wheels for play and I expect some 265/75 tires for general driving on some newer body style 8 lug wheels.

For mpg I can only assume what I’ve read on the internet, somewhere in the 18-20 range.

Sorry, no, that's the nature of diesels. Change the oil and run the engine fifteen minutes and it'll be black again. You can't judge diesel motor oil by its color like you can on gas motors.

Thank you for the information, this is the best part about building such a different vehicle than I am used too, so much to learn!

I had an oil analysis done on the oil that was in the engine when I first picked it up. I have zero history on the engine, with that being said the outside of the engine looks amazingly clean with no oil leaks and all the expected factory markings and oem parts intact. I was surprised to see "high amount of wear" in the report and am curious how it looks after the engine has had fresh oil ran through it for a duration of time.

Spent some more time on the Cummins 12 valve.

Installed the Adventure Vehicle NW high mount AC kit, the kit includes a new bracket for the ac condenser, alternator, and idler tensioner relocation. Upper and lower water necks with fresh orings were also included.

While everything was open I added
  • New Cummins Front crank seal
  • New Cummins gear cover gasket
  • Gates water pump
  • New Cummins Thermostat, 180*

Moving to the rear of the engine, I have installed the Summit Racing Cummins 6bt to GM 4l80e adapter and flex plate along with a 2005 Ford Power Stroke 6.0 starter. I’ve got to do some searching for starter bolts

I also received the Adventure Vehicle’s NW motor mounts that need to be welded and painted. Almost time to get this sucker out of the barn and into the frame

I found myself a new roof! The cab I have been fixing up had a bunch of rot in the windshield channel along the roof line. I figured it would best to reuse factory gm metal than for me to figure out metal shaping on such an obvious location on the cab.

The local pull a part had a cab that was in great shape above the windows sooo I made a convertible!
