In case others are unaware, there are a couple hidden features on 88 radios. Not sure what other years, but I once had a 92 that did not have features. These are not listed in the 88 owner’s manual. Push volume down and fade down at the same time to get LD(Loud). This really makes a difference. Push volume up and fade up at the same time to get DNR. I’m guessing this is Dolby Noise Reduction? I’ve know about these since actually discovering by accident in the 90’s.

Say whaaa? Cool, I'll have to see if the radio in my truck supports that. My CDM is from '93 though. All I was previously aware of was the mute feature, if you double tap the volume button down it instantly turns the radio almost all the way down. Thanks!

I know for sure 92’s didn’t have it as my dad bought a brand new 92 K1500. The thing I’m not sure of is if it’s the CDM or the dash control unit that allows these features. I will know soon as I purchased a 94 CDM with Bluetooth and aux jack added.

Very interesting. I always wondered why there was a DNR indicator on the display. @DerekTheGreat I knew I could "mute" by pushing the center of the volume buttons so that both were pressed simultaneously, but didn't know double tapping the down would do the same. Now I'm gonna have to try that too lol.

Oh, maybe that's what it is. Derp. I bet double tapping doesn't do anything.

My '93 has the "F#%K-IT! I'm out!" function that leaves you with NO tunes to listen to after x number of years.

Not the most enjoyable feature, honestly.
Yeah the later model ones have that feature too. It'll work ok sitting in the driveway, but once you get out on the road and hit a bump, it quits. Hit another bump, it may come back on. The Delco trained radio mechanic I talked to said what happens is the soldered connections come apart eventually. That's basically what happens to the HVAC switch, passlock box, etc. Anything that's got a soldered circuit board inside.

If that's the case then that is an easy fix. Open up the offending unit and break out the pencil soldering iron and touch up the solder joints. It's a good idea to have a roll of 1/16" solder. You most likely will need it for some joints.
