Looking at the picture of the pad, I see one of the little posts is scraped off, but not the others. I wonder if they weren't seated, and the pad worked it self loose, and the rotor simply carried it off the caliper the last time your applied the brakes, shearing those spring clips. Maybe the rotors were damp, causing extra friction between the pad and caliper?

That could’ve been caused when it got wedged between the wheel and caliper. I don’t think the rotors were damp, it was dry outside and I was already 35 miles into my 50 mile commute. I’m at a loss on this one.

Yup that caliper is toast, ready for butter and jam! Definitely NOT supposed to be bent out like that. Poor metallurgy? Bad casting? Those outer ears are supposed to be flat, 90 degrees to the ground. Parallel with the rotor. And IIRC the pad clips on the outer ones are pretty stiff. Had to use a big screwdriver to pop them back into place. They're sort of like a leaf spring.

My coworker said that it looks like I bought someone else’s problem since it is a reman lol. I’ve put maybe 125 miles on that caliper.

I enlarged the photo and it almost looks like a crack is starting on the bent ears. That thing needs to be scrapped. It literally could have gotten someone (or several someones) killed!

That’s exactly what I was telling my wife, what if she, our daughters or an elderly person was driving when that happened? The brakes are totally gone until you pump the pedal 6 or so times. I managed to get the truck stopped both times by using the e brake and shifting into low.
