Cowl hoods absolutely allow hotter air to escape the engine bay at idle and slow speeds. As speed rises cooler air is drawn in through the cowl, but that only happens at speeds high enough to lower air pressure at the base of the windshield.
Correct that cowl hoods only work at low speed. At higher speeds you have high pressure at the base of the windshield, making a cowl ineffective. On our race car we have an extractor vent cut right behind the radiator, and a home-fabbed scoop 10" deep that hangs down right in front of the motor, directing the air coming out of the radiator over the top of the hood. If you're trying to fit turbos, there's not much room for that. I do know a guy who turbo'ed the KA24 in his 240SX and was cooking everything underhood. He put some hood louvers over the turbo and it made a significant difference.

The high pressure in is pretty well fixed unless you add a diesel bumper with its associated duct.

This being a good, or a bad thing? I have a diesel bumper with no ducts. Didn’t know about needing any ducts. (Sorry OP for the thread jack)[/QUOTE]

The diesel bumper used those holes to direct more airflow through the radiator. Without the diesel shroud behind the bumper you just have a bumper with holes. If I were you I'd stick lights in those holes, I doubt you're doing anything with your truck to get it that hot.

I’m not lol.

They make a nice foot perch while I’m under the hood though!

The limited and Z71 Tahoe's use that bumper with lights. Looks pretty good.

Painted body color too. I'd love to find one my color and not banged up. Those Z81 Tahoes got a few nifty goodies.

So, I know this has nothing to do with my build, but I want to give a shoutout to my boys and teammates here in the 316. We started out on the streets today with 18 cars and got broke up by the police several times, so we took it to an abandoned air strip to finish. Here's some pics of my boys cars warming up the rears!!!!!

Link to pics of the full day!

So, I made some modifications to the positioning of the motor and it fit a little better. It allowed me to get the headers and turbos mocked up......

That fitment is perfect! That’s a very nice setup there my man. Is this a one off custom kit or could I get my hands on a set of those turbo headers???
