The commercials back then said it all "Like a Rock" . It was an astoundingly good ad campaign backed by a truck that delivered exactly as promised. It didn't take long for that word to get around. Too bad GM didn't hang on to that lesson but that is another topic. I have had mine about 4 years and each year have put in the magic "two new truck payments a year" on fixing things and renewing others. This was the year of the Air Conditioner.

The second year I had it was the year of the transmission. The engine appears to be good and i think it was replaced before I got the truck but one never knows. It is after all 27 years old, but who's counting?. Next up, some new interior stuff and it will still be an old truck when that is done! It has its purpose, it is a truck.

I like to tell the guys with the 60,000 buck rolling brothel trucks. "Mine hauls just as much, is almost as fast, AC is (now) just as cold and I have no payments to remind me how overpriced it was.
Rolling brothel lol that's funny, I'm gonna keep that line handy. I will be doing the A/C rebuild on mine. Only gonna keep the original evaporator.

That is a decent deal, particularly on a presumably low or no rust Southern truck. 4wD is really good and that 305 will likely run forever. In that shape I would consider restoring to as new rather than any custom stuff beyond a Blue Tooth Radio that will work with a phone. For a work truck that is a safety item.

Ok thanks. Yeah I only really wanted to get high performance parts that are considered maintenance like distributor cap, alternator, plugs n wires,k&n filter,a few chrome dress wheels n brackets etc. That way hopefully she will take care if me and run 4ever like you said. I bought her for a mobile workshop and to be able to drive where I want without getting stuck. I hope to one day give the old girl to my son who fell in love the other day when I took him to the 1st mudhole aand showed him what 4wd is exactly.

The driving factor in value is also determined by supply and demand. In areas where these things met a fate with the rust monster, really nice low mileage examples are scarce, and will be valued higher than in areas of the country where rust is a non issue. Where I live, people junk them not because of rust, but rather because they are just completely worn out with 300K to 400K on the odometers but with rust free cabs, beds, doors, fenders, frames etc.
Wow, that's tragic. Around here, I'd snatch something like that up in an instant. I'm pretty much garbage mechanically yet popping another engine & trans combo along with a rear axle and some interior work is nothing compared to what rust does to a vehicle. I'll take worn out over rust any day of the week, even at midnight.

Come on down to west Texas and get ya one. Once they are in the salvage yards you can only get parts off em. State will not allow them to sell a whole vehicle anymore. Years ago I have purchased salvage vehicles and rebuilt them. Aaaah the good ole days. However theres lots of these listed in the local papers.

I went to the car show today. I was running kind of late. So I backed in next to a friends Vette, parked, and popped my hood. About 20 or 30 mins latter, one of the regular guys at the shows says He Kenny, you want to sale your truck. I said, not really, and I see this guy looking at my truck. He says, man you have a very nice truck, do you want to sale it. I said, well it wont be cheap. The guys says, He's been looking for a GMT 400 for a while, and my truck is in very good shape. I said, well I cant take less than $10,000. So He gets out of His SUV, and starts looking my truck over real close. He ask a bunch of questions, then offers my $7000. I said no, I have to much work in it to let it go for $7000. He said, man it is a very nice truck, but all I can give is $7000. I said no, that just not enough.

Yeah that's a little diddy I keep to myself, haven't had to fire it back at someone yet but it's ready. Funny thing is, 45/55/80mph is all the same when you're cruising along and both trucks will take you to the same places. My truck just does it for less. I've got nothing to prove to anyone so I'll take that money I save and spend it elsewhere.

I just dealt with that last weekend. We had firewood delivered and our trucks were in the driveway. The one guy was looking at mine and asked my wife if I'd sell it and how much I'd want for it. I told him I couldn't replace it for anything less than $4,500, and even that is a stretch. I haven't seen a similar regular cab, shortbox, two tone, 4x4, 350 powered sticker-shift truck come up for sale in salvageable condition in over two years around me. My truck isn't pretty like yours but like yours, I've got lots of work into it and it's mine. It's been too good to me to let it go. Now, this '79 G10 I've got? That certainly needs another owner. :)
