Recommendations to new gmt400 truck owners. Basic maintence/upgrades/mods
BUY OR DOWNLOAD A GENUINE GM SERVICE MANUAL SET.

The FIRST things you look at are all the things related to safety.

Steering
Suspension
Brakes
Lights
Tires

The SECOND things you deal with are fluid/filter changes and general lubrication; especially if you don't have a service history for the vehicle.

THIRD, engine tune-up/driveability issues.

After that...fix whatever you notice is a problem.

The LAST things you do involve aftermarket modifications.

That could be my diary/journal for this year!
Got the truck in January and that's pretty much the exact order I worked through things on the truck over the year.

2000 7.4 ccsb 4x4 230kms. From Alberta. I’m the third owner, the other two put a lot of money into keeping this rig mint. It does wonder on the highway, any suggestions for a good u joint or steering box. This is going to dd so if I’m replacing parts I want them to be best. It has 285 75r16 Michelin’s on a 3 inch body lift and levelling kit

There's a post on it here somewhere. I feel like the brand flaming river was thrown around, but search for "rag joint" and you'll find it.

If body lifted go buy energy suspension body mounts and get some 3.5" (3" minimum) diameter 3" tall solid aluminum with 9/16 hole in center made for the lift under the cab (4 on std cab and 6 in ext cab) and throw the plastic junk away. World of difference in driving.
