That has the 4.6 or 5.4, right? Where are the coils and spark plugs located or what covers them up on these engines? I recently got a 2001 F150 King Ranch super crew with a 5.4. It has an intermittent miss on 2 cylinders that I've been told probably means it needs a tune up. 218 thou on it. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Very nice Crown Victoria BTW. I like old cop cars. My uncle has a black Marauder. He likes to play with people on the drive back and forth to Albuquerque by making them think he's a slicktop New Mexico state trooper.

Crown Vics have the 4.6 and the Police cars (P71/P7B) had no engine cover. Coil on plug. Haven't seen a P71 with Underhood insulation, either.
I have heard so many nightmares about 5.4 engines...plugs, timing chains and major issues. 5.4s would be a deal breaker for me.

Ugh. I have the spark plug thread repair tool. My son's Crown Vic is in the driveway right now, and he's supposed to come over some time this week and start working on pulling the motor. "Dad, I don't know why it stopped running. The check oil light's only been on for a couple of days."

It was cheap! Boss's family has ranch property in south Texas, and this truck was the ranch truck. Was my boss's truck when new; he drove it for 10 years and said it was fairly trouble free. Biggest issue we have with it other than the miss is the ac won't get cold. In Houston summer that's a necessity, and why we agreed to buy the truck in the first place. Cause the air in my Burb is not working, and I know it'll cost a bit to get that fixed.
More I look at the truck though, the more I like GM s way of doing things.....I can see all the ignition parts on the Burb now.

My DAD did the same thing that your son did! I love these cars though. They handle better than a lot of the Camaros and Mustangs I've owned.

I hear ya. My dad has a beautiful late 90's extended cab F150 with a blown out spark plug 5.4 that will probably sit on his property till the next century...
I haven't the slightest interest in it!

Well, I'm keeping an eye open for a rust free Crown Vic or Mercury Grand Marquis to body swap. Bloomington Indiana's winters weren't nice to my car when she was in service.
Plan is to do some vital preventative things to the truck in the name of dependability and sheet metal preservation, then flip the focus back to the Vic. I'm glad both my vehicles are full framed.

I am a big fan of the Panther platforms myself. I've had 2 Grand Marquis and a Town Car. Parts are cheap and even more plentiful than our trucks. This crown vic looks great!
