Paid $9k for my 1999 K2500 Burb, and every single one of my friends thinks I'm an idiot for doing so. But none of them are car guys. To them, it's just a vehicle. Means of transport. Well, one is a car guy, but he drives a 2010 Silverado with the 5.3. And he thinks I was out of my mind for spending that much. But he spent $25k on his, used, and it only gets 15-17 mpg. I get 10-11 and have a better truck. Way better. I have 4wd, he doesn't. I have more torque. I have more USABLE torque. My interior is wider. My seats are far more comfortable. My radio has actual buttons.

To me, the 400 platform is on a pedestal that is untouchable. No other truck ever has, or ever will, be able to compare. To combine pure truck toughness and rugged, reliable, simplicity into a single rig combined with just the right amount of comfort. Not too much, but not a bur under the saddle either.

He makes more than me by a fair margin, and he has his truck paid off now, but I still like my 400 better than his 900. And for some reason, he hates anything with four doors. :rotflmao:

I frickin hate the 900 trucks unless its a ltz or denali. What frickin idiot puts the door handle under the arm rest??????. I hate the interior. Then theres things like the headlight. You have to pull the fender 1/2 way apart to change the headlight bulb. Our shop truck is a 1 ton flat bed 900 with a duramax. Ok the duramax is good, but the rest of the truck sucks.

I honestly don't know if I've ever looked under the hood of a 900, that's a shame to hear about the headlights. The 800s got it right in that department IMO, I love how the headlights on my dad's '06 are designed. Pull one rod and the whole assembly pops out, no tools necessary.

Yes that and the blower motor are the only things GM improved with the 800 over our trucks.

I think the debate is subjective to what the owner wants in a vehicle and what their "car guy" level is. Regardless, any used vehicle is worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it. As for gmt400s. Their resurgence in popularity has driven the price up due to 67-72 C10s being WAY expensive, 73-87 C10s right there behind the 67-72. Thus leaving the 88-98 as next in the price level. I have had them all. Not to mention the aftermarket companies that jump on each of the wagons to provide parts for each genre. I personally draw the line at 1998 due to the "old school" or "classic" GM styling and simplicity.. but, that's just me. I can smooth out the ride, fix the normal 400 issues, and increase its braking capability to perform with the later models. ..and to me, that's the fun in owning the 400.

I would drop a pretty penny for a clean low mileage 88-98 because I am a true GM truck guy and look at them as an extension of who I am and not just a vehicle. Non-car guys do not understand that mentality - but, who am I telling, if we weren't car guys, we wouldn't be here on the forum taking time to talk about trucks, right?

Exactly bro!! On car guy shout it’s about the time someone takes to clean n care about the ride new stuff should be great or nice ITS NEW MAN!!! it’s like wait 20yrs n see if the design holds up of outside plus interior and most newer trucks have a 5.3L vs 5.7L I know they more power n such but a 5.7 was in sports cars and has a better sound and is a and been a staple in engines for years. I appreciate when you roll up anywhere and see a really clean older ride not something someone went an bought it that way but a real owner of the ride that knows the qwerks of they ride and can actually drive it in any scenario with confidence! And for all y’all that live up where it snows who can do a figure 8 donut in 2wd but real question is who can in 4x4? 2 winters ago after a big snow and snowing new menards was being built and construction crews where still working asked wife n kids if they wanted to do some donuts n boom out in lot tearing it up peps was all looking like damn dudes doing that in a Escalade some we seen afterwards you could just tell they never have acquired the skills to do anything like that plus in a nice ass ride full of people!
