Yes sir. Nobody gets so nutted up over +.002-.000 as the guy with the check pins.
When I started out, QC was the kiss of death.
And, in some ways, it still is.
But,
We keep it all running in the background.
And, we are the people that wake up in the middle of the night because we dreaming about whether or not?
Have I done the right thing?

I need to do this so badly. For so long now. Haven't been able to use the inside handle to open the door for years now. This is mine with the door cracked open

I really screwed up that whole post but the moral of the story is that once you get the hinges and bushings all squared up the door can still be mis-aligned.
The sheet metal A pillar is pretty damn thin and the weight of the door will pull it out of alignment.
In the old days, some poor schmuck had to hold a 2x4 against the hinge while a drunk tried to hit it with a sledge hammer.
This is rough on the glass, the door and the kid holding the 2x4
Dont be surprised if the body shop uses the floor jack to align the door.
The "slide sledge" is really the only way to do it right but they are insanely ridicously expensive.
If you can, find a body shop that has one or somebody in the heavy equipment bissiness because they also use them

Does this essentially involve stacking some 2x4s lengthwise on top of a jack under the door frame, and slowly/gently raising the jack? Or is there a better technique to this?

Sorry it took so long. I dropped a friggen oven door on my foot and broke it.
My foot, not the oven door.
FYI folks, your door brackets are chromed plastic. Dont pick it up that way.
Anyway, once you take care of the pins and bushings properly.
If it still sags the sheet metal has pulled out of shape.
The only really practical way to fix this at home is the 2x4 floor jack method.
It is not the ideal way to do it but it will work.
Just be gentle and do it slowly.
You dont want to overbend it.
Welded door hinges are always a problem.
Just deal wth the pins and bushings first and do your homework.
The stuff they sell at the parts store is crap.

I went out to the truck and took new photos of the upper hinge on the driver's side. The upper (small) bushing is worn/broke so that the pin is against the outer edge of the hole (does not appear to have elongated the hole), the lower (large) bushing is also broke and the lower hole on the body side of the hinge is elongated to about .581" long, the door side of the upper hinge appears to be separating at the bottom of the hinge. I have purchased four NAPA Solutions Door Hinge Repair Kit, Part Number 675-5164, not labeled as a Dorman product and two Roller Pins for the indent arm. Would it be best to take it to a body shop to replace the front door hinge pins or invest in a set of hand reamers in order to true up the holes. The GM replacement bushings OD are larger that the NAPA bushings; large gm is 18mm or .709" vice NAPA .533"; small GM is 17mm or .669" vice NAPA .495". Please let know what your thoughts are on this, since some of you have dealt with this issue.

Checked a body shop on pricing the front door hinge pins and bushings. Said $250.00 without even getting out of his chair to rake a look at it. I mentioned that the hole on the body side of the hinge was egged and he said that the would have to replace the hinge. Maybe I'll invest in some reamers and fix it that way. Comment or ideas on this route?
