I have a 1997 c1500 extended cab 2wd 4.3 and my tranny is pretty much crapped out on me. It runs normal right after the first start up in the am, I drive about 10 miles to work and I have to stop twice. After the 2nd light, the truck up shifts to 2nd gear hard and then to 3rd gear and stays in 3rd no matter what. Wont down shift or go in OD on it's own or manually. Ran like this for couple weeks and the other day on the way home the tranny started slipping, in all gears. I'd like to know what went wrong. I was also wondering if there is any other 4l60e that I can swap out because all the Salvage yards I called say there is no interchange, so help me please anyone lol. Truck only got 63,000 miles on it.

You can get a new tranny from gm. That's what I did. Otherwise if you want to diagnose it you'll need a scanner that can communicate with it. Also original owner??

I got from the original owner last year. I'm just gunna have this 1 rebuilt. There is a good shop in my area, they said 1200-1500 completely rebuilt with better basic replacement parts.

As far as interchange, check here. I believe there are some small differences but this site will allow you to locate several options in your area and hopefully find one that works.

That said, good luck with 4L60Es in general. My experiences with them in my '97 C1500 4.3L were sub-optimal to say the least. 4L80E swap was the best thing I've ever done to that truck. And being a 2WD means you don't have to worry about the transfer case or front driveshaft. Just food for thought.

Here you go: https://www.gmt400.com/threads/97-c1500-4l60e-to-4l80e-swap.38819/

Also check out performancetrucks.net. It's a very common swap on that forum since those guys are always running big power numbers. It's not a "direct swap," per se. There's some re-pining/wiring and computer re-tuning to do and the crossmember has to be swapped or modified. I've got one going into my '99 ECSB also with 4.3. Mine needs a valve body, but engine is worn, so will upgrade to the 4L80 while I swap an engine...you know, 2 for the price of 1!

But as far as your 4L60, do you have any codes? Maybe something easy as a shift solenoid? My nephew's S10 had an issue with one of the shift solenoids and truck went into limp mode. I helped him diagnose it. Although he had a code. He got a junkyard solenoid to swap in and everything worked after that.

I changed both A and B shift solenoids and nothing changed at all lol. I'll fix egr after the tranny and I just wanna make sure nothing electrical went bad to cause the tranny to fail so that's y I'm trouble shooting before I remove it.
