After installing the Posi-Lok and actually getting my 4wd to work I put it in 4lo and cranked the wheel full lock to one side and the other and realized that my CV shafts are toast..... I thought I could get them installed Friday night before we left Saturday morning, but the folks at the auto parts store decided to give me 1500 shafts not the 2500 ones. So the trip didn't happen. But I did get the new shafts today and will be installing them tomorrow. Nothing like having your truck torn apart in the driveway with all the wrong parts for the job.

I got my new CV axles in this morning.... now there is only another little CRACK POP BANG noise when it's in 4wd so I'll be rebuilding the front driveshaft either this evening or tomorrow. Gotta get ready for that Bald Mountain trip that got pushed back to next weekend hahaha.

A few other little things got done also...

Got my MagLight mount in the mail so that's mounted between the seat and drivers side door.

I also got a fire extinguisher mounted behind me.

And a new Magnaflow muffler installed with a hideous horrible turndown. I can't stand those kinks in the bends. Kinda makes me with I did it myself...

Busy day today.... just went and picked up some fluids for my transmission, transfer case and a new gasket for the rear axle. Only thing left now is power steering, breaks and clutch slave cylinder fluids and I'll have a good baseline for my maintenance intervals.

I also grabbed some U joints to rebuild my front driveline. Hopefully this is the last piece of the puzzle for a fully functional 4WD system.

And while I was out and about the brown santa dropped off my recovery gear I was hopping I'd have before this weekend. But at least I'll be prepared for next weekend.

The Spyderco knife just looked pretty in the photo. And the USB outlet isn’t really recovery related but it'll be nice to have mounted on my dash.

Been close to 5 years. I hope he didn't use that tranny fluid in the trans, need special fluid for an NV4500. Wipes the synchro's out.

Old truck by kyle mccarty

My whole goal with this truck is to have something reliable that i can use as a pickup and explore all the trails possible without having to worry about being stranded or scratching the paint!

My first reliable wheeler i had was a 2006 LJ Jeep. It was a lot of fun but i couldn’t haul much around. I went of a 1500 mile dirt road trip from the bay area thru Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Arizona. That kinda gave me a kick and then the Overland bug bit me.

Then about two years ago I traded my Jeep in for a 2014 Silverado. I was able to haul **** but every time i scratched the paint id get sick to my stomach and those truck payments could have been a mortgage payment. So about 2 months ago i sold the truck and went on the search for something that was already beat up, a manual transmission and CHEAP!!!

Those two pictures are in the Eastern Sierras off of 395 just south of mono lake. I think it was Laurel Lakes trail. Anyways those rocks chipped lots of paint off some fancy rims and i was praying that i didn’t smash a rocker panel!

Man, I was reading this with some anticipation! Hope all went well, and if you’re able to update us on the rig I’d love to hear that too!
Fairly certain he sold the truck. He had a thread on Expedition Portal also. I have a 2000 version of the truck (extended cab auto trans though) that I'm planning on the same sort of use for though. Was hoping others had done the same, but not a lot of info.
