Dual in cat body works very well too. In fact the magnaflow/bosal high flow cat for a L30 305 Vortec van is identical to a TBI truck where it bolts to the manifolds and uses a high flow dual inlet/single outlet cat...
THAT, in stainless steel, would be nearly perfect.

With aluminized pipes, it'll rot out in ~8 or 10 years, which may be perfectly acceptable. My Flowmaster aluminized cat-back system went a little more than ten years, but had rust holes big enough to push a kitten through towards the end. I got rid of the aluminized parts, replaced it with Stainless pipe and muffler several years ago.

Tri-Y headers into a Merge Y or X-pipe have worked best for me for torque.

FWIW my 1997 Express van 350 Vortec was dual 3" to the muffler from GM.

I have a 3.5L V6 with equal length, merge collector shorty headers, dual 2.5" pipes and a X after the high flow cats. It smokes the tires anywhere in 1st gear.
So would be fine to run 3” true duals on a 96 vortec ?

I just saw this one and I would not recommend the Magnaflow. I had that muffler and didn't like the tone or the volume on my 350 Vortec. I went with what I think is a stock muffler (2 in 2 out) for a 6.2 truck and i like it very much. It sounds like a '70's corvette to me.
I’m not looking for much sound, just a nice low rumble to the exhaust. How did that one compare to the stock one?

No need to use the restrictive TBI Y-pipe. Used this cat with BBK equal length shorty headers on a 383 V8 Astro van build a few years ago. Little Astro van was a very strong runner with a 3" single exhaust. Owner wanted it smog legal and mellow.

I like this, and from what other people say about the whole single vs dual I might have to look into that, thanks
