Okay so I’m back with more tranny woes. I decided to take one of the spare 700r4s I have laying around and got it rebuilt by a guy who came recommended to me by a friend. Heres the stuff he replaced and put in there.

All High Energy frictions
8 Stack 3-4 clutch pack
BW High energy band
Corvette Servo
Hardened Sunshell

I also got a new torque converter to go along with it. So I swap I out the transmission, button everything back up, and fill it to where it needs to be (while hot in idle of course).
I set the tv cable as best as I could by looking up videos and pictures. I even put a corrector bracket for my EDELBROCK carb so that the throw is “correct” although I suspect the geometry is still an issue for me.

It shifts fine through the first three gears, and I believe the converter is also locking up because if I switch from OD to D I feel it tug the truck back, but I definitely know it isn’t in OD because I was doing 65 @~2600 rpm
I’m at a loss tbh, any help would be appreciated.
I’ve looked into getting the TV made EZ kit by bow tie overdrives just to eliminate the geometry as a possible culprit as well, so if anyone has this kit I would appreciate some feedback on your experience with it.

TV cable can effect your trans going into OD. Too low governor pressure will keep it from shifting into OD. If the TPS says your pedal is >~50% it will keep it out of TCC.

If you want to confirm the TCC is locking cruise in 3rd for awhile (not in cruise control) and watch your tach, then lightly tap on the brake, your TC should unlock and your RPMs should go up.

Okay, this makes sense, since on a regular setup when you mash the gas it drops a gear. How I have been driving it is at part throttle, and in every other gear it’s been shifting ~2000 rpm and it just stays in 3rd.
& I’ll try your suggestion for the lock up as well.

Try pulling the brake peddle up when it should be shifting into over drive. There is a switch connected to the brake peddle under the dash.

I’ll definitely try that as well, I wasn’t aware that could potentially keep it from going into OD

I just edited this post (in bold) because I had a brain fart, :doh2:. The ECM doesn't tell the 700R4 when to shift into OD. The brake pedal switch will unlock the TCC, not prevent it from going into OD. The trans tells the ECM when it's in Drive (1st,2nd,3rd) or OD (4th) through a switch. The only thing from the ECM that tells the trans what to do is lock the TCC. Here's some light reading, ha ha. Go to page 46 (or 48/100), 3-4 Shift Valve Train. Maybe your governor isn't working right (plugged ports or stuck spool), if the TV cable is adjusted properly and you're getting enough pressure?

After you try everything you can, as a last option have the rebuild guy take a look at it. I had a similar situation once. The rebuild shop accidentally left one of the check balls out. Best of luck with it. Hopefully it is something simple.
