Im not opposed. Just heard it’s expensive to swap and could cost more than the truck is worth...4L80e.
Sweet!!! Some more Upstate folks in here!!
I did that and a shift kit and a fluid purge all at once. Truck was great until I broke the case on the trans.
Liberty, just on the other side of EasleyYeah man! Where about are you?
I’ve also heard there is a 20hp loss moving to the 80e. Can that be recovered in some way?
That’s weird. Shouldn’t be like that. I got my 99 1500 suburban 5 years ago with 200,000 miles and stick transmission. The previous owner pulled a 20 foot enclosed construction trailer full of tools 600 miles every weekend for 6 years With stock trailer. My tranny now has 250,000 miles and it’s still stick and original and works great. You shouldn’t be having this issue if you have a quality tranny. Good luckI would just sell your 1500 and get a 2500/3500. Already comes with 4L80, better brakes, beefier frame, and more payload, engine/tranny/P.S. cooler. If it has the 5.7 the 2500/3500 has a 4 bolt main. 3.73 or 4.10 gears standard. You can get one with the 7.4 as an option, if feel you need more power. You need 8' bed anyways for construction use.
Or just keep the 1500 for personal use and get another truck. Work trucks get beat up anyways and can sometimes be had for a bargain, even more so on the GMT 400 series.
Sounds like 1500 was well kept.
Or swap 4L80 if you are set on your 1500.
BTW I think K1500 is only rated to tow 6,000 lbs with 3.73s so you may be over your towing limits.
