My 95 has the channel that you are talking about. If I remember right that is the first year that it started.
Here's the picture of the later shroud in a truck. My 99 Burb, 5.7 vortec. 34" wide radiator.

If you live in Colorado, I'll sale you mine. I installed electric fans a couple years ago and kept the old fan shroud. I don't believe it is worth the shipping cost but it's here.

I had to replace my broken shroud a few years ago. I think hydro dip would make the engine bay look really nice. What color hydro dip? Its a little confusing on the shroud, But you have to look it up by gm part number. Then the updated part number. Don’t buy from carid the lower radiator ships for $99. Also You will have only a 28”core with an oil cooler and 34” core without oil cooler. Just type in the updated part number on eBay

Carid list upper shroud is part number 15739587 for 34” radiator core with updated part number Gm3110126 thru eBay $41.88 with free shipping a. The upper ribs were changed a little so you may want to sand them off to make the shroud smooth.

carid list the lower shroud as part number 15954691 for 34” radiator core but updated the part number to GM3110144 thru eBay $28.88 with free shipping.

Have you done hydro dip before? Are you dipping yourself or taking it somewhere? Also I would use the original fans shroud for the hydro dip. But I would just do the upper. The lower you wouldn’t see. It would also save you some money. The replacement shroud has a very long groove for the hot wire (circled in blue) that goes across the hole shroud with several mounting tab holes , along with structure ribs and would be a nightmare to make smooth. They no longer make the shroud without the hot wire groove.I would use the replacement ,if you ever wanted to go back to a stock look .On you factory shroud the 4 structure ribs (circled in red) might be a cause a problem with your hydro dip. I wouldn’t know ,I have only hydro dipped flat surfaces. You may want to call a place the does it professionally. To see how it will form around the ribs first. If you choose to remove them.I would start out using a dremel or rotory tool with a drum sander and get it close. Unless you just want to knock them down a bit.if you want to make it smooth use a d/a or maybe a jitterbug Palm detail sander(if you don’t have a air compressor) next . Start maybe with 80, 120, 220, then 400 grit. Take your time and don’t stay on 80 grit to long. The plasic is super soft. Use the sander only on the caution fan raised letters. If you don’t have these tools, they ate pretty cheap at harbor freight. There are also a couple drill holes in the shroud if you choose to fill or if you make a sanding mistake, that you can use JB plastic bonder on and it’s sandable
