Where do I start...I was gifted this truck last week after years of teasing my uncle about ever needing a place to drop it off, he could leave it with me. As my fantastic luck would have it, my wife lost her job the next day. As it is, the truck isn't costing me anything to keep. On the other hand, it's a sore spot with her because she hates my happiness (There's too much **** in the yard already). I'm not trying to sell the truck, but just introducing my self and at the same time asking what some of you more knowledgeable people would pay for a truck in it's condition. If this is the wrong place to do so, my bad and let me know.

It's a 92 4.3 with a 5 speed. cab corners are rusted, drivers side rear wheel arch is showing some rust. He hit a deer awhile back, and fixed the grille. The hood is still bent but functions as it should, it's got some pretty good dents in the passenger fender and drivers rear quarter. Interior shows it's age. The dash is a loss. He told me the throw out bearing was going bad, and that as far as he knew, it was the only mechanical issue with the truck.

Well for what it's worth, I work for the state and therefor by definition must be less observant than the average joe. I found the introduction forum and posted there as well.

I would tone down the "happiness" and put the truck to use moving some junk from the yard if possible. That would turn it into a positive thing for your household. Also spend some time helping your wife find another job. I expect she took an ego hit from losing her job and some positive vibes from you will go a long way. Truck looks to be in average condition. I assume the Silverado style grill was added when the deer damage was fixed. The sprung hood needs fixing as it makes it look more like a junker than it probably is. If you replace the throwout bearing it will be time for a nice new clutch at the same time as the labor is about the same.

Put it to work and give your gal some support! Welcome to the forum. You can find most anything you need in the way of info about the truck here.

Yeah, we're trying to stay positive about the job. It certainly wasn't her fault, cutbacks to due Coronavirus caused two positions in her office to be cut. We have a good size yard, she just hates junk sitting around. Fortunately, this one at least drives. I appreciate the good vibes.

A lot of people are taking a hit from that rotten bug. Sorry she got caught in that. A little cosmetic stuff on the truck will go a long way assume it runs ok despite the noisy throwout bearing . Cab corners and a new red hood will make it look a lot less like yard clutter and much more like the great truck it is. Since that is a pretty common color you will likely be able to find a bolt on replacement hood. Good luck to your bride finding a new gig. As things open up the pent up demand should get a lot of people hired in a hurry.

That five speed stick improves the truck's value in my opinion, in spite of all the other defects. I like the truck and it definitely looks to be worth the trouble to fix it up.

I appreciate all the support and opinions. Currently, I plan on hanging onto this truck. It's seen better days but isn't in bad shape at all. I'm going to be looking to make it reliable for now and then move on to the other fun stuff later.

Here's an update that no one asked for but you're gonna get anyway!!!

So, I ended up hanging on to the truck and things improved financially and as of this morning I not only was able to get the truck road legal, but I also was brought some extra parts! I got the original radio set up and the original shifter. I'll be putting the shifter in later after work.

Congrats on getting past the rough patch. Looks like you are making good progress. I assume if you replace the noisy throwout bearing you will do the clutch at the same time. That and the new shifter should have you in good shape for quite a while. That is a good plan, getting it reliable first. I have seen more than one with lots of expensive parts bolted onto an unstable platform.

Thank you! That's the plan. I have found some junk yard pieces for the body inexpensive enough, but the clutch/throw out bearing are the first major repair item.

The shifter that was in the truck was a little short for my tastes. Felt like I had to lean and reach for fifth gear. The stock shifter is much more comfortable.
