Well I finally broke it after about 3 years of abuse, honestly surprised it lasted this long. Dumped the clutch in first at 5k, grabbed second and made a noise, then stopped pulling. Now I dont have s gear one, the shifter just flops around. Anybody got a clue what broke?

Pick one.
Pick several
Pick 'em all.
Won't know till you pull it apart.
An NV3500 is a lot more expensive to rebuild than the stronger NV4500.
Time for an upgrade.
Although, I don't know if even 4500 will put up with side-stepping the clutch @ 5 grand very often either.
Time to hit the wreckers.

Yea I'm honestly surprised its lasted this long, it's never been babied. Layed many a patches of rubber with it lol.Figured the tranny would go long before the motor. I think I know where another 5 speed truck is I could get for cheap. Its honestly got to much motor for a 4x4 truck but its what I had laying around.

That ain't no brake stand lol that little spot is when I grabbed 2nd. Give you a hint about a brake stand when you see tons of rubber behind the actual black mark then you can say its a brake stand.

Dont gotta brake stand this truck just rev it up and dump it and pray it holds together. But it finally bit the bullet.

The motor is a well set up 400, had it in a camaro but didn't sell the motor with the car and instead of letting it sit I put it in the truck.

Logged in after many years to tell you that you likely broke your 1-2 shift fork. The forks are made out of aluminum and break if you shift too hard. The gears themselves are really strong and are probably okay. I just had my nv3500 rebuilt and it was 3k. Im a little chuffed because they only had to replace the clutch, mc, throwout bearing, 2 shift forks, a syncro and the bearings..... Everything else was fine and it was still 3k.
