Has anyone here ever cut the rear pillars to mount 6x9s? I’m doing this because the stock 4x6 speakers really suck and i want some real sound for my mids. I have a kenwood head unit, a pair of kenwood 6-1/2 in the front doors(1995 GMC extended cab) and a Rockford Fosgate P300-12 powered sub in the back. It sounds great but I’ve wanted to replace the rear speakers for a while. I have the interior out already so i have room to get the trim out of the way. If anyone has done this let me know how you did it. I’ll figure it out regardless but some tips would be appreciated. It’s not my daily driver and money is tight right now so I’m not in a rush but when i get to work on it I’ll post pics.

The door speakers and head unit were bought from Best Buy around 4 years ago because the factory set up was not great, only the rear speakers and one door speaker were working and the radio didn’t even have a tape player. I didn’t replace the rears because of the headache it is to get to them. The sub was added about a year after that, it was a gift from a good friend, he had it in his s10 single cab but needed more room so he bought the 10” version. I didn’t take a pic but it has a bass knob that i mounted in the little cubby under the ac controls.

1.5" angled 6x9 spacers and u can mount most normal sized 6x9s in c pillars. Have done a few for friends. Just used like basic pioneer 6x9s , some if the bigger ones may fit but you would be trimming metal also instead if just plastic panel to make a bigger magnet fit. I personally would get sum 4x6 plate speakers tho , but I just don't like oval speakers or "rear fill" I'm general. I doubled up the 6.75s in my front doors and fed each door 450 watts and jammed 3 15s on 8k where rear seat went, no need for rear fill.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not putting the rear seat back in and I do plan on doing a more powerful subwoofer setup later on, one 15" or two 12"s but i still want that sound from behind me until then. And i don't want to cut the front door panels for extra speakers. i will upgrade the front to a component setup in there future but i think with the setup i have now the 6x9s will round it out nicely.

I have 6X9 speakers instead of the factory 4X6 speakers on my 1993 GMC EXT/CAB looK up some of my post or use the search button.

Now if you don’t want to cut up your truck mount those gray 6X9 boxes over the 4X6 speakers.

Here's an option I found when searching previously. I'd find better grills though, those look TERRIBLE.
