So I’ve recently tried my hand at rebuilding a 700r4 with no prior experience, overall the process was somewhat overwhelming but I put it all together and got it back into the truck. I made sure to replace all the clutches and steels, and whatever seals I could along the way. Through each step I rotated the transmission and everything was as free slowly as it could be. I now have it to where it shifts into all three first gears fine, but it doesn’t shift into OD at all. If I’m easy on the throttle it’ll shift through the gears at around 2.3k rpm pretty smoothly, but it won’t go into OD. Is there anything that can be done without having to drop the entire transmission again? If not, will I damage the transmission further by continuing to drive it as is? After this transmission goes out I’m probably going to convert my truck to a manual so I’m not all that worried about toasting it, I’d just like for it to not happen anytime soon if possible.

So 1-3 but no 4. Well it's not the 3-4 pack or the band itself. When I broke the case on my 4L60 it lost 4th but had 1-3. I think the servo stroke loss was the cause there. Did you measure your servo pin and all that jazz? Any chance it's binding? Verifying this would not require removal of the trans.

No i just replaced the seals and reassembled it back onto the transmission.
What should I be looking for when I measure it?

I don't recall exactly, just that the length of the pin was very important.

So I bought a replacement servo and it still doesn’t go into 4th gear. Would it harm the transmission if I continued to drive it as is? All other gears shift fine

When I replaced the servo some fluid came out and it looked clear. It wasn’t muddy or anything

Well I have a 700r4 so I’m not sure if it has any of those. The trans light has never came on the entire time I’ve had the truck

check the tv (throttle valve) cable adjusment and make sure its not broken or binding.
TV cable adjustment on a 700R4 is super critical.
It controls line pressure and shift points.
Do not drive it until you get the problem sorted.
That is a sure fire way to smoke a 700R4 and the weakest part of the whole system.
I know, back in the day I baked 2 of them before I figured it out
