hi guys

Im going to to be modifying my 2000 k3500 regular cab truck here possibly this winter. It has the 454 in it with the towing package, im looking to hear from others of how much they got for gains for the mods they have performed on there own trucks. mine will be used for hauling a camper and a quad around and possibly a toy hauler later down the road. i was planning on getting black bear performance to send me a tuned 411 pcm after the mods are complete.

thnx Carl

I know this is a late reply but.....

I also just got a 2000 K2500 from my dad with a 454. I was going back and fourth with a guy on a Facebook page that said he did JBA long tubes, 2.5" duals into dynomax super turbo mufflers, a Comp XM284HR cam, Comp 1.72 adjustable roller tip rockers, and lightly ported stock heads with Bosch yellow top injectors. He said the power gain was laughably different throughout the entire RPM range. He said he did wish he 0411 swapped it, but he loves how it performs now.

I sent my stock PCM to Blackbear last Tuesday. I chose the 91 octane tune. I got an email yesterday that said I should get it in 2 days. I was super excited until I realized it's a holiday weekend and USPS probably gets the entire month of July off.

Honestly I thought the weakest link in the vortec motors was that stupid distributor cap. On the 454 it is really cheap and easy to convert to coil near plug ignition if you already have the 0411 PCM. You can buy the reluctor wheel from GM for about $40 compared to a couple hundred for the 350. A new crank sensor, the coils off of any LS motor + connectors, and Mouser has the pins for the PCM for dirt cheap...

I wouldn’t say the distributor/cap is hurting performance per say. They do wear out and need replacing from time to time though.

I'd like to hear more about this if you have links.

I agree. I didn't mean to say they hurt performance when they work right. They just seem to be a weak link because they fail and will cross fire inside the cap.

I'd like to hear more about this if you have links.

I did it on my 99 2500 suburban. It uses the reluctor wheel and crank sensor from the L21 big block which is a vortec 454 with coil packs. I also bought the blank distributor cover that replaces the cap. I bought the LS1 coils second hand and had to buy the connectors new though.

The rest is done according to the directions below

I have pictures, just not on this computer.

What'd you do for a cam sensor?

For batch fire, yes. If you want sequential you need the cam sensor.

Yeah, I realized it this morning when I was thinking about it again. Need cam position to figure out if the cam is on intake or exhaust cycle. Thanks.
