95 is the odd year. The wiring in the transmission is different and they wont shift right in any other year without changing pins and ecm. 96-98 is the same. No worries about swapping. 99 and newer uses little different stuf . The wiring and the plugs are the same but have a 300 mm torque converter input vs 298mm. They use different torque converters and flexplate to mount to a sbc generation vs ls platform. they all will bolt to each other. Just the little extra stuff to make it work. To your OP. Throw it in. It will work as long as its 2wd-2wd and 4x4-4x4 same to same

I have a 1996 Tahoe with a 4L60E transmission. My questions relate to the difference in years. I have a rebuilt one from a 1998 pickup. Are the transmissions different? Do they have any difference physically or electronically? Any help would be appreciated.

The 96 one piece trans has it's own unique wiring harness for that year. Trans from a 98 will be two piece and a slightly different harness. I don't think it's too hard to swap harnesses, but the two piece case may be a challenge.

Doesn't matter how many pieces the case is in. They went that way in 97 because the C5 Corvette came out that year.
