Well after doing more homework, I've come to the conclusion I screwed up on my exhaust when I put the 383 stroker into my 98 Sierra. I used JBA Stainless Shorty Headers which have 1 1/2" primaries connected to the rest of my exhaust which is 2 1/2" back into a straight thru Magnaflow 2 in 2 out muffler no cats. I am now going to install a set of JBA Stainless Ceramic Coated Long Tubes with 1 5/8" primaries to the 2 1/2" exhaust but also add in an H pipe. That set up should yield me so better figures!

Once I get it installed she will go back on the dyno to see how much I actually gain compared to before.

Previous set up put down 250whp & 322rwtq @ 3800rpm.

Fit like a glove! I had to swap gaskets as they sold me the wrong ones. Now for the passenger side..

Looking good, is that bung on the driver side for O2 sensor or EGR?
Were you able to keep EGR with the long tubes?
I know it's a different engine but I'm looking at the JBA long tubes for my L29 Vortec 454. Very interested in your results of the difference long tubes make.
Thanks for taking the time to post this!

Will all the motors i've built and played with, shortys are normally good for 5-10hp. Long tubes are good for about 10 hp. On stock motors. The more air the motor needs, the more it will gain. I wanted to do a dyno test on a 496 bbc that was going into a c3 vet. Motor made 564hp with the long tube dyno headers and then only made 531 and it richened up the tune. We only spun it to 5000 rpm as it had weak valve springs in it for cam break in but the # gap would have only gotten worse with more rpm.

O2 bung is driver side. Egr was deleted when the stroker went in. At the exhaust shop now...

I wouldn't mind keeping the egr in tact on my 454 in hopes that it would help with my highway cruising fuel economy. I have yet to see a good study of the effectiveness of the egr to do what it claims vs just appease the EPA.
Wondering if I could adapt the O2 bung to fit my egr pipe and have the exhaust shop weld in O2 bungs into the collectors since my Vortec 454 has one for each bank.
Thanks again for the information, would also like to "hear" the difference the long tubes make for sound. Cheers, Zach

The EGR reduces NOx, about 4 years ago I failed emissions for high NOx, I changed the EGR and passed. This was with the old 2-way pellet style cat. The newer 3-way cat will reduce NOx. If you want better MPGs on the highway, do it with HLC (Highway Lean Cruise).

Just let the shop. The throttle response was instantly noticeable. Power curve has moved for sure. The roll on acceleration was awesome. Be a couple weeks before she hits dyno, but I’m all in for $1500 cnd. I’m happy with the way it works & sounds. I’d almost say it’s a tad quieter. I’ll get a video posted up when I can..

have to let the Holley Sniper “Learn” & adjust fuel for a bit now..
