Seeing how little my truck rusted having an extra vehicle and not using it in the snow or rain we decided to seek out a DD vehicle I could use for work and back. I was looking for something under 4,000 preferably closer to 3 or less that was in decent shape. After a few weeks I stumbled on this mint condition 99 Buick Century with 50,000 miles. I had owned one of these in the past and they are great drivers and easy to work on, not much to look at but very practical for what I need. I ended up getting them down to 3365 for it and am very happy with it and the deal. The underside in immaculate and even the lines have barely surface rust. In Wisconsin this is unheard of for a car this age. I might fluid film it since I plan to drive it in the winter and keep it decent. This car could easily last me 10 years or more in this condition. I would say it is definitely worth it to keep my truck from rusting out for the money I paid.

That has the 3100 V6 in it right? Had a ‘95 Beretta with the same motor and it went to 300,000 miles before the body rusted out.

That should make a great daily. Throw some window tint on it and drive it.

Yes it does, im sure the motor will outlast the rust that will come from driving it around here all the time. It could definitely use a little privacy and cooling with the window tints I may look into doing them myself.

Those clean old cars grow on trees out here.

I got to thinking about this comment after posting it and wanted to clarify it better. Back when I lived in the rust belt, I never really thought much about looking outside of it for cleaner cars. You got lucky WB, but rest assured in the future there's a million other clean old cars out there waiting to be found. Just not in your neck of the woods.

I did the same after years of ruining trucks that are just too expensive (for me) to replace. Never thought I'd daily a car, but when the roads are mostly clear and just salty...I needed a more disposable form of transportation.

A 4x4 truck without rust up here becomes some absurd expensive market game. They're for sale for exponentially higher than blue book or NADA value. Dealers and private sellers both participate...And if my truck was rear-ended tomorrow, I'd take a major loss from insurance.

That car will have a good service life. I thought those came with the 3800 and 4T60E? Should be the ultimate reliable daily driver combo!

Edit: I was wrong! No 3800 in that one.

That was a big reason we did this was the price of a nice clean well taken care of truck vs spending the 3,000 and never worrying about having to find another truck. In the long run I feel like it will save me a lot more money and time to have this and not have to find another truck. I looked for a Lesabre too with the bullet proof 3800 but ended up with this. At the mileage I drive it should last a long time.

Our first car purchase after getting married was an '88 Lesabre with the 3800. We sold it with 270,000+ miles on it. That car was fairly quick, got 25-30 mpg, and rode nice. They still haven't improved on that design today.

The 3.1 is a good motor. Start shopping for intake manifold gaskets now though...
