88-94 Factory Stereo Info

This one is kinda fun! This is a '94 C/K CDM with EQ. I paired it with a really nice Delco Bose Gold head unit with fully function tape. I'm testing it with a mix tape I made decades ago!

This is the truck CDM number. I would suspect it did match the '94 I took it from, as it is the later production from when it shifted to Singapore from Kokomo, IN.

The 2125 is the CDM I'm planning to put in my truck if I ever get the dash swap I want. Good little unit.

That is, unless I find out a Bose CDM unit will work with the digital equalizer

Got another couple part numbers for you. This 16140942 was used in '92 Buick PA/LeSabres with EQ. I left this CDM behind (really didn't want to buy it to repair, I could already hear it 'ticking' raising and lowering the volume.


I paired it to purchase with a CDM from the trunk of a '95 Seville, no EQ, 16169996. This number appears to cross to non-Bose (of course), '94-'95 DeVille, Seville, and Eldorado. I was surprised to see it was made in Kokomo, as I thought all later production had gone to Singapore, but the part number is correct for the car.

Looks like the cassette deck is mechanically identical or at least very similar to the truck models too. There are some small differences in the early vs later C/K truck models, such as the tape direction sensing method, but they are all (as a complete mechanism unit, separate from the overall EQ/Cassette body) interchangeable with each other.

Well actually, I'd guess they'd have to be a little different on those because the buttons on the head are multi-function... So no dedicated button board attached to the tape mechanism via ribbon cable like in the trucks. But as far as the solenoid-driven operation and motor location, they both look very similar. I'm curious to see more of the cassette mech.

In any of the pics I only seen one 88 black control head and it appeared to not have bass and treble so did they have multiple models in 88.

I notice it's missing the AM ST button. Interesting. Did that truck have a cassette deck at all? I'm certain there were the two different models for all 88-94 years, but the EQ versions were more common as far as I can tell..

I found a couple of that style (not with the black buttons/face tho) in the yard last time I was there but didn't grab any. But I think even those had the AM ST button. This is the first one I've seen of that style that doesn't.

Certainly looks better than all black. Contrast is a good thing.

If the head unit doesn't have bass or treble controls, it was part of an equalizer equipped system.

I have no idea when I got the truck everything was gone but the control head and the harness has been cut of it. Really want to hook it up just for clock function so its not blank screen sitting there
