Changed thermostat and hoses, trying to bleed the cooling system with a spill free funnel (already tried with just the rad cap off on ramps, same result). Anyone have an idea of what's going on?D have much experience bleeding cooling systems, not sure if this is normal.

First video is idle with thermostat open, hot heat. Upper hose only gets hot enough to burn me if I squeeze it (sometimes) or if I turn the truck off and back on.

Second is what happens when turning it off... Messy.

It was doing all this same stuff before using the funnel. Bought the funnel so it didn't make as much mess as it did without it. The bubbling/whatever happening at idle inside the funnel happens without the funnel too, and it'll spew out the top of the radiator randomly with no consistency (which is why I don't think it's head gasket, it should be consistent).

At startup the temp gauge will get to 210 after driving for a bit (5 minutes?), then go between about 160°F and 195°F on the stock temp gauge for the rest of the time it's running. Cranks for maybe 3 to 4 seconds before starting normally. Not sure if relevant. Runs, drives, idles smooth.

ACDelco 195° thermostat 12T1E.

I've tried bleeding with the cap off with the front of the truck up on ramps, and with the funnel. Same results regardless. Just more mess and wasted antifreeze.

Thermostat installed right-side-up?

Did you test the thermostat before installing it?

1. Yes
2. No. Should probably get better about doing that...

It's maintaining a more constant temperature as of today. It's maintaining about 185° - 210° at idle, and when it gets any amount of throttle (or I'm driving) it cools back off to 170°.

This is all according to the dash gauge.

Upper radiator hose is also now too hot to touch. Maybe it's slowly bleeding itself?
