i thought about replacing head bolts but the guy at machine shop said not to worry about them. also the haynes just said to clean old bolts and apply sealer. cleaned old ones with a die to get all the old sealer and stuff off. also went through all the bolt holes with a tap. i know alot of people say use a chaser but couldnt find local so i just used a tap. i put sealer on them as well. i dont see the point in doing any upgrades with the rockers unless im missing something. i already put the head back on but im now regreting not doing the valve seals which came with the gasket kit but i dont have spring compressor.

okay you guys have motivated me to go ahead with other head gasket and valve seals. new delima. i cant get power steering pully off. i bout two differant puller/install kits one from advanced and one from napa. neither work. the thin rod that goes into pully is too long. is there a special pulley just for these trucks or what. of coarse auto parts people dont know anything

Photos?

I can't picture a "thin rod" that "goes into the pulley".

I'm thinking that the removal tool should look similar to this:

But the real question is "why are you taking the PS pulley off?"

I bought the tool from OReilly and it works great. It's easy to confuse yourself on how to use it.

Of all the times I've welded a nut to the broken off bolt, the times it didn't work are the times I wasn't using enough heat. I just had to weld a nub on the end of a broken stud on my dually to give the nut something to hang off of. It was especially fun because it was pointed down a bit. I must have failed a half dozen times, then cranked up the heat and got it on the first try. If the weld is snapping off of the stud, you need more heat. Did the same with a broken brake bleeder on the wife's Envoy.

i got the pully off. i was me and not the tool. i just had to walk away and calm down lol. this is my first time ever digging into a motor like this. so you know trial and error. but the spring compressor tool is junk i went and picked up one identical to the one posted erlier its complete junk. and i was trying on the head i had pulled off too. the teeth that grip spring just pop off. so i just said f it. geuss its not meant to be right now. i dont want to do one head if i cant do the other and i already installed other one so i figure if this tool wont work with it off it sure wont work on the one thats on. idk if im doing something wrong but it seems pretty simple.

anyone know about replacement exhaust manifold bolts? i went to napa the ones they had as a replacement in the system where acually about a 1/4 in or so longer than the old ones. i went to hardware store the closes ones they had are also a little longer. surely someone has replaced these before. anyone know where i can find them? would like to go with the grade 10? i think it is. the yellow looking bolts, so i have better chance of them not snapping if i need to take them out. also if i did find bolts to work what about the two studs on the drivers side for the alternater bracket?

I got a set for my 05 tahoe couple weeks ago on rock auto. I think they have the same for the GMT400s as well. The Dornan ones are great 10 I believe
