So here’s a weird one, I have a 99 GMC Yukon that I think might have a limited slip diff. Here’s where it gets interesting. When doing a burnout or when on slick surfaces, both wheels spin like an LSD or a welded diff would, and when I turn anymore that 3/4 of the way the truck handles like a welded diff (both wheels turn at the same or near the same speed making tight turns very rough). When I jacked the rear end up, the wheels spun in opposite directions like an open diff. The code stickers on the door and glovebox are gone. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

My G80 locker likes to stick locked, doing exactly the same as you describe.... only mine doesn't perform like an open while in the air. Won't let me turn the tires at all if the transmission is in gear (manual). It only sometimes handles like it's unlocked in turns... Most of the time it's like I have a solid rear back there. Can't stand the thing and want to swap to open gears, but I'll just swap in the bigger 14bsf axle with open gears someday...

Long story short, the G80 locker is fairly unreliable, and your truck probably has it. It's not a limited slip, but a governed locker as some call it - it automatically locks the axle fully if wheel slip passes a certain speed.

Regular gear oil. I think there are clutches but they're not there in a limited slip capacity?
