Just rebuilt all rear brake components. Now getting a slight scraping dragging noise from rear end only when turning right, which seems like only when weight is shifting to the driver side. Any thoughts? Dust shield, backplate, wheel bearing, rear end gear, uJoint???

I gotta think brake component since that’s what was recently touched, but the right turn only thing is confusing me. It only happens when there’s load on the driver’s rear.

Have you changed the rear axle bushings?

Check for leaks as the differential tends to leak when they go.

But what you describe is typical of front wheel hubs are you sure it's from the back?

Really sounds like it’s from the rear. Initially I thought front wheels. But for the past few weeks I’ve been listening closely with my head hanging out the window and I’ve convinced myself it’s in the rear.

I only spoke with the GMC guy tending to the cash register, I explained the issue and eventually his response was “yeah the mechanic heard the noise and then turned the drums and adjusted the backing plate that was rubbing and the noise went away “....I wish I had a more intelligent response for you but I’m one of these owners that relies on the real mechanic for most solutions. I judge the work by the fact that it’s no longer making the noise. Since they did the brake rebuild they had to fix the noise, no additional cost. I wish I had something more enlightening to share but I’m pretty much a simpleton on these matters.

I think the only takeaway here is the blatantly obvious; stationary wheel components and rotating wheel parts are touching at speed and causing noise, friction, heat and wear. Somehow one must find that contact point and correct it. Find the grind and rectify. Best of luck !!

Not the same issue as I haven’t recently done my brakes, but sometimes when I brake and turn right, I hear a clunk come from the driver side rear. Only seems to happen after I’ve been driving awhile, as I can’t make it happen twice in a row, like in a slolom.

That’s strange, someone would need to hear more details on that. If it’s a hard clunk then that almost sounds like the rear end slop checking up, I’ve had that before in previous trucks and it’s been worn out U-joints clunking. When I had lift blocks on another truck I would get a clunk that was primarily due to the rear end wrapping due to the lift leverage. Could be a shoe hanging up on the drum for some reason maybe but there shouldn’t be enough play for that to clunk. Could be sloppy ubolts on rear axle. Most clunks I’ve ever had on these trucks came from worn out motor mounts, but that would sound like it’s coming from the firewall and not the rear end. Let us know what you end up finding. Good luck.
